The question "why would I care about something that no human had anything to do with" hasn't been answered by the people pushing this technology
China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

"Young mayor gets caught using police gym for pickup basketball" is the plot of a kids movie where the mayor is the hero
New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

This report is genuinely overwhelming, in terms of the evidence both against Trump and of a ham-fisted cover-up. Including one instance in which Ghislaine Maxwell was actually about to mention one of Trump's young accusers and Todd Blanche told her to stop talking. The media response is "yawn."

From the Dems House Judiciary report:
Katie Johnson, 13, reported Epstein and Trump argued over who would take her virginity, and Epstein became angry and violently raped her when he learned that Donald Trump had done so. As shown by official FBI interview notes, Johnson, through her attorney, reported these alleged crimes to the FBI.

"...a dependency on equipment you buy once is very different from a dependency on fuel you buy every month. When a shipping lane closes, a fuel-importing economy feels it within days. If solar panel exports stopped tomorrow, the panels already installed would keep generating for decades."
NEW: Hormuz reminded fuel importers that buying energy cargo by cargo means importing every price shock. In TIME, María Mendiluce and I argue the response will decide who becomes the electrostates of the next decade. @wemeanbusiness.bsky.social time.com/article/2026...

I wish we could have captured the sensation of our backstage rehearsal and bottled it to send to everyone fighting the good fight right now - it was pure goosebumps magic of transcendence. I think that comes through in the final video, but my god - it was something else.

This feels related to how happy I am when a student paper has an awkward sentence or other indication that it was written by an actual human being. The work might not be perfect or even always good, but I'll choose that over cheap and fake every time. @ironspike.bsky.social @lollardfish.bsky.social

Guessing two things are going on: 1) the need to verify an extremely serious allegation, which I respect; 2) this story being “more of the same” or what we already think/know about Trump, which is problematic. Him being a good guy would be news, but him being accused of rape is just Tuesday
I know there's a lot going on but I feel it should probably be more of an above-the-fold story that members of Congress released a thoroughly documented report directly accusing the president of the United States of being a serial rapist.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

This, but also, as a liberal I believe in freedom and human rights for all people, all around the world. That translates into rooting interests in elections where freedoms and rights are on the ballot, as they often are.
