Post

What a lovely piece John. I had some random interactions with Om about a picture he or I ( I can’t quite recall ) posted when he was here in Michigan for some reason. I’ve missed his blog and am saddened to learn of his passing. Thanks for sharing your friendship.

It’s just unbelievable what good and prolific writing he was doing these last few months. He’d stepped his writing game up as he neared the end. It’s just unbelievable that he’s gone too. I had this strong urge to run my piece by him before publishing it.

His photographs were largely like his writing, they distilled the essence of a scene in gorgeously, subtle minimalism. I would bet anything I became aware of his photography through you years ago. I thank you for that. I’m glad you included a link in that loving tribute.

Incredible piece of writing about an incredible human. I feel like I now know him better because of reading this. I sure wish I could have experienced him as closely as you did, but you shared enough to give me a taste of what it might have been like...

i will miss his voice on everything from technology to business to pens to baseball… even the Yankees (severely anguished Boston fan here)…

I have read your blog two or three times a week for over twenty years, worn through two Daring Fireball t-shirts and listen to The Talk Show (whenever I have a spare 3 hours to invest) often…

This part stuck out to me: “He had kind words to offer everyone because he had a gift for recognizing good things about everyone.” This is how I first met Om in 2013

thanks so much for writing this. I always valued his insights. I didn't "know" Om, but thanks to your article I feel more like I did.

What a wonderful eulogy for Om, who was obviously someone very special for those lucky enough to know him personally as you did. Thank you for your warm and generous post: some of your very best work, and that’s surely saying a lot…

“He not busy being born is busy dying, wrote Dylan. Om Malik wasn’t busy dying even when he was dying.” What a tribute. Sorry for your loss.
