Yes, Mayday, the international workers' day which both the US and Canada tried to subvert by declaring a long weekend in September with a Labour Day for the Monday. The idea was to turn a day of international worker solidarity into a mere day off work randomly chosen in your country.

Finally. I've been wondering when this would finally happen. I've called for them, but I'm not anyone that anybody cares about so it's like pissing in the wind

Absolutely. Good first step. I've been begging people since last February to use these 1 to 2-day National Strikes to Organize, and practice for a General Strike. The "General Strike" touches one of only 3 times that we matter to politicians: 1. General-Elections/Primaries 2. Midterms 3. Our Labor

One problem. A General Strike requires the Unions. The biggest are in a contract that doesn't end until 2028. But also, a General Strike isn't something that can be done quickly. It takes planning, Organizing, and Prep. I'm too housebound to actively do anything but educate. bsky.app/profile/malk...

There isn't going to be a general strike. Nobody is prepared for it. If you want to have a general strike, you need resource sharing. You need mutual aid funding. You need babysitters. You need transportation. You need protection from state sanctioned violence. We need community and unity all over

Exactly the same way the Allies avoided trying to assassinate Hitler; his stupidity & total control of the country helped the Allied war effort, while more competent leadership would have hurt it.

The Holocaust was well under way before the Allies were in any position to attempt to assassinate anyone in the Nazi regime. The only way Hitler dying before 1945 would have prevented it would have been for him to be KIA in WW1, during the Beer Hall Putsch in 1923, or before 1933.

Laughable. The only ones that will participate are local small shops and very small businesses. This will send their customers to their larger competitors. Effectively the only results will be the loss of a days pay and buisiness for leftist coffee shops and book stores.

Jmho...a one day strike means you will do your normal shopping the day before or after. We must stop all purchases of NON ESSENTIAL items. And yes alcohol is essential. I've been doing it since 1.20.25

EVERY COMMUNIST IN THE WORLD WILL BE THERE! bought on Craigslist and twitter? Anarchists CODE PINK STUDENTS FOR A DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY LaRasa = Unidosus ACORN WORKERS PARTY MARXIST LENNENIST COMMUNIST PARTY USA = ANTIFA AFSCME ANARCHISTS FROM MEXICO, Zapatista Peoples with the Peoples of the World

Eeeehhhhh a performative one day event on a date strongly associated with the old USSR doesn't seem like great optics when organizing against an administration that commonly refers to its opponents as "Marxists and Communists." 😐

Otherwise, it hurts only us...not them who are causing & perpetuating it against us Prosecution under THE LAW. not political Impeachment which our Criminal Justice System REPLACED to be separate powers Impeachment is never a remedy for a CRIMINAL POTUS TAKEOVER

We must stop bringing each our own grievances to these protests & unite under one theme to remove this nation of the Con we set free to run & rig 2024 to do all this NOW in OUR NAME! We will not survive him if we don't do what has never been done...that we deny CAN be done...what is now required!

That’s more like what‘s needed! No Kings days are re-assuring and good fun, but they don’t move the needle. Money is the only commodity that has any effect on the power to effect change.

And since WalMart reports that their customer base is including more affluent people (and this is likely the case with many corporations), a general strike by all those who can find a way to do so for a week, would more likely be noticed.

Trump will be at Maralago. Probably FIRES anyone who takes a sick day. We PAY HIM to have CABINET and security stay and EAT at RESORT PRICES. Extra people ARE AT HIS RESORT ON OUR DOLLAR now that he started a WAR. He goes on VACATION EVERY WEEKEND. Where is the GOP OUTRAGE? WASTE OF OUR MONEY!

Fantastic, now I know that you don't have a proper organizational body that could turn this into a much needed revolution, but this is better than nothing. If possible - try to extend this strike as much as possible.

Believe it or not just one day, of everyone who can, participating in a strike can and will have an effect. It won’t bring down the government or a corporation. But it will hurt and it will put them on notice.

seems elitist to me. lots of people either can't afford to call out from their job because they have no paid leave. why not do something everyone can take part in, regardless of their job sitch?

One day? That’s not gonna cause any billionaire assholes to pucker. It’s not a serious strike when you know when it ends. The power of a strike is not knowing when it ends. It’s a game of chicken between the owners and the workers. And the workers have all the power in this situation.

Most Employer's are insured against industrial action upto and including Strike action for 6 weeks. A work to rule is more Effective. Only the Work you as an employee is Contracted to do is done. 1976 as an apprentice. In a bus garage 1,200 fleet. After 6 weeks 1 bus was available for service Xmas

This is a completely disorganized online attempt at a general strike. Too many folks are skipping the intense on-the-ground organizing necessary for something like a general strike and going straight to "Okay, strangers, we are all doing this on May 1st!"

That organizing is happening. Indivisible refuses to actually work with on the ground folks to see how they might actually lend their email lists to this effort. Indivisible might as well be political theater for all the missed opportunity of actual change they could have accomplished.

It sucks that Indivisible isn't helping but when my feed is full of leftists being snarky about No Kings instead of talking about how they went and did organizing work there, it makes me think not enough organizing is going on. Regardless, no general strike will happen without much more organizing.

Could I possibly be right? Does this mean there will be no protest- not one- in April of 2026? You know, the year we forgot about the Gulag because we're so busy starting WW III (oops, sparking Armageddon, which is prayed for and presented as a good thing)?

I'm a little surprised that I haven't come across anyone advocating for a tax strike, especially since taxes are due in two weeks.

It's about time as the only thing these Nazis understand is loss of $$$. Shut this country down as best as we can and make a bold statement that we American citizens are not having any of what you fascists want. We're taking it back, our country.

Visuals from the protests have more impact and having one again in May increase pressure. How much impact will a one day strike really have? How many people can actually miss work? Even if all 8M participate, which is unlikely, in a country of $342M will that even be felt?

After this I suggest a NO INTERFERENCE MARCH on ELECTION DAY. Millions of people joining up on the streets and around polling places, after they vote, to keep any government goons sent to make trouble so overwhelmed they are incapable of intimidating or interfering with anyone’s right to vote.

Who is organizing the General Strike? A failed General Strike will make things worse than they are now. What is anyone doing to encourage success?

Most of the people who do these protests are old and retired.. they don't work anyway. Many of the remaining didn't even have a clue what they were protesting. I'm guessing the general strike won't do anything besides make some headlines while pretending it made a difference.

Weekly no shopping days would do the trick Maybe an entire week Not sacrificing my employment to prove a point but I will happily sacrifice the paycheck of the 1% That would get their attention.

Please, support small locally owned businesses and don't include them in this strike. They are struggling enough. And people living on the margins, it is asking a lot of them as well. They can choose to call out of work but the costs to them are far greater than to those in higher income brackets.

I just mentioned this to a small business today and yes, this hits them hard. Instead can we make it a day of only shopping and eating out at locally owned small businesses.

that's a good idea, but small businesses are still part of supply chains that include businesses we should be striking against. imo if you want to support small businesses during a strike just give them the cash you would have paid for their goods or services
