Norm Eisen of Democracy Defenders Fund: “Please don't overreact to Roberts Court decision on the contemplated USPS ballot moves They simply held that the injunction came too early in the process, before there was a final rule. Now we HAVE a final rule & we will litigate it.”

✾ In plain English: keep suing until the midterms are over. Basic verification of eligible voters is the threat. ✾ The underlying policy is about requiring states to share the lists of people they’re sending federal mail ballots to, so that USPS isn’t just blindly 🕶️delivering them.

This is why we need to be able to vote using our phones in the civilized states. USPS is garbage. People may not realize it but all over the country there’s a freeze on installing new locks on apartment mailboxes because the new keys don’t work. I haven’t had a secure mailbox for 1 1/2 years.

The fact that the supreme court took this as an emergency case is the concerning part. And that they seemingly align with trump on the premise. Forcing states to prove their case. This IS election interference!

Election security expert David Becker: “There is another injunction in place, and even the majority of the Court agreed that a new lawsuit could be appropriately filed after a final Postal Service rule was issued....

In fact, the final Postal Service rule was issued late last week, though the Court seems to be ignorant of that fact. I expect that the states will file a new lawsuit and that this order will remain blocked for 2026.”

Sure looks like another SCOTUS purposeful slow walk to this layperson, akin to the Jack Smith prosecutions. It is amply clear by now SCOTUS (6-3) wants to keep Trump and his ilk permanently.

They did exactly as we all contemplated yet being called reactionary. I am so tired of those who have enough money to buy themselves out of the consequences of this shit talking to us like we are 2-year-olds.

I don’t see how 23 federal courts can rule that the DOJs demand for voter rolls is unconstitutional and then have the SCOTUS turn around and bless the US post office plan to decide who gets a ballot in the mail.

Alito and Thomas are in the bag for whatever this admin wants to do right off the bat - two votes right there. Roberts loves a good voter suppression issue - that's three. ACB will likely side with the liberals, so basically the fate of our elections depends on Gorsuch and Brett. God help us.

Post Office can burn selected ballots anyway on the workroom floor of mail processing. Nobody has to see anything. Some people just don't return their ballots. Others have a temporary forward the mysterious nixie clerk enters.

The U S Supreme Court should be dissolved. They don't follow the Constitution and it is a political arm of malicious politicians. It is time for major changes in our court system. Eliminate life time term limits and clarify who makes the laws in this country, congress or the Supreme Court.

We need that!! It costs a $120 for 6mo having a small P.O. Box. How can SCOTUS even consider this? Trump voted by mail Just last week. The USPS better consider this.. U best bring my mail r give me my money back. Trumps going 2 get U put out of business. Especially since I pay 4 service 2 my Box!

Vote by mail is fraude by mail, according Trump, without delivering any proof mind you. He explained, kinda(?!?), why he votes by mail. Why don´t they never ask Trump how come it isn´t fraude when he does it but it is fraude when others do it.

Yeah since Trumps trying his best NOT 2 leave the WH!! I mean, who spends all that kind of money on the WH when "ITS NOT YOUR HOUSE!! We could take this prediction to the Bank!!😅💯

Find out what the USPS policy is because the report tonight is that it is NOT what Trump wanted. We need to find the details. MOST states use scanners not voting machines. Paper is verifiable.

This is getting to be a concerted bullshit collective patting those of us who TRULY have to live with these decisions and can't purchase our way to entitlement. This is the most collective "there there now" to real concerns we SHOULD have. My reply to Norm:

I wouldn’t trust the USPS with my ballot at this point. Voters would be best served by dropping off ballots in person at their precinct. For those who can’t drive, we can offer to drive those folks to the drop off location. Check state laws first before deciding to go down that route.

Trump did not win. Mail-in vote will go on normally because practically Trump doesn’t have authority to implement whatever. The law suit will go on because one law suite is still the lower court. I couldn’t believe I needed to read. The simple solution is to get rid of 🤪 the Trump

And they’ll be allowed to do it during the litigation I bet, which will last past early November… of course… We’ve seen how they work the legal system.

John Roberts saying "how high?" when tRump says "jump." Will he ever get tired of being tRump's flunky or is the money 💸💸💸 too good?

I don't who that is but I know what the courts have and continue to do. The whole "Don't worry, we got this" attitude gives me no hope or inspiration. They are dealing with conservative Christians who act in the name of their God and not the law of man.

The unsigned emergency ruling is partisan anti-election rights & anti-Constitution. The actual words sound as if they gushed from Harp's trumpian butt kissing mouth & certainly should be grounds to impeach Robert & his MAGA SCOTUS gang of 6. USPS embracing it is breaking Constitutional law. A2,S4.

Sorry, had lots of "dark thoughts" when I cam home from band practice (yes, admit to being a musician) and heard the court had found a way to give Trump what he wanted. But yes, litigation, and perhaps public condemnation of the little darlings, is the way forward.

While the rules and language of the law obviously matter the concern is those in power will simply not abide by them. The question then becomes "How does the collective citizenry respond."

Yes, and they ruled a different challenge came to late and couldn't be heard. Kind of feels like the SC only moves at the speed they feel is most beneficial to Trump?

I think the fear is that the ballot will not be delivered to regist. dem. individuals/ households. I use a secured local dropbox rather than the usps for delivery— but that won’t happen if it never comes to my home. I may call my municipal clerk today to change to in person. My vote will count!

Thank you for explaining this Supreme Court decision. Right before our eyes, Trump is doing everything he can to cause chaos right before the mid-term elections. He is so scared Congress will become majority Democratic and finally investigate his illegal policies!

Regardless, SCOTUS reform MUST be a top priority. We need to quickly water down the voices of these right wing wackos. After which, the biggest wackos will likely retire very quickly.

If we’ve learned anything in the past 10 years it’s that the courts, especially the supreme court, uses delay and haste, at its whim. Not feeling great that we can just litigate again. Trump blows past the law and it takes time and perseverance to rein him in. We don’t have time anymore

In the 1800s, rough saloons often doubled as polling sites. Voters had to saddle their horses and battle the weather to cast a vote. Still, in many years, voting percentages were between 75% to 80%. Voters will need to step up big-time in November to overcome the Republican shenanigans.

I'm already hearing all the reasons why someone can't do something and I'm like, really? This is fucking important. Do whatever you have to. Yes, I acknowledge that there are some in situations that make it very difficult and maybe impossible. They aren't the majority.

I think we should have the right to vote them in. It’s a flaw in our system, made glaringly obvious by this SCOTUS, that a president gets to seat judges. It’s not a check or a balance.

I'm gonna overreact. This court of oppression has never failed to do the wrong thing. I don't expect them to break an oppression streak now. Besides, unlike you people, I don't have faith in "American" justice. Remember, court of no resort.🤬

Overreact is an understatement in this situation. It's time to get down and dirty in this situation. Roe was something I never, ever thought would be overturned, but here we are.

If the order requires states to provide lists to the Postal Service for filtering mail, then the Postal Service has to be able to handle last minute changes by the states as per state procedures (since the states control "the manner of holding elections). The postal service isn't capable of this.

Eisen is probably a good lawyer who plays by the rules. But Justices Thomas, Alito, & Roberts seem willing to make up their own rules. Why expect them to play fair? OVER-REACT. Let the Supreme Court know we demand voting by mail. Along with proof they aren't in the Epstein files.

What’s really disturbing to me is that a benign agency like USPS is now being forced (I guess?) to be complicit in disenfranchising voters. Why can’t the Postmaster General just say no? Why can’t they just deliver the mail? That’s their job, right? 😩😩😩

I respect you Norm for all that you do to defend our Constitution and rule of law. That said, I’m going to over-react cause once again the #UnSupremeCourt is enabling a would-be dictator to do harm to our country Roberts is saying we have to wait for the crime to occur, then we can act. Bullshit

POS doesn't make laws. Congress does. An executive order is not passed by congress. Post office is seperate from the 3 branches. This is BS! Come on time. Tic-toc.Heritage foundation must be DESTROYED. If this happens next year, let's bankrupt & destroy the Post Office. What do you say?

By all means, overreact! We are in the middle of fascism and being simultaneously attacked by Israel/Russia/China, and others. Wake the fuck up!

Dear Meidas Touch and Norm. I truly believe that you care about upholding the rule of law and this ruling shouldn't worry us. Tell that to the corrupt SCOTUS. It's crystal clear that they want to help Trump in any way possible. This same bunch couldn't read the 14th Amendment.

At every turn, this SCOTUS delays, lifts injunctions, or refuses to act to restrain DJT & his Admin. Don’t give them credit for the few times they defended what’s actually stated in law or our Constitution. We were manipulated to allow DJT to run in ‘24, by immunity, & now, to not 🛑 his insanity.

What a coincidence: the traitorous Roberts courts gets all the time in the world and the benefit of the doubt when it benefits the Epstein class and the corrupt GOP, but they never need it when it comes to stopping executive overreach or enforcing the constitution. Conservatives are cancer.

#30million8/30 It is far past the time to react. March in August to protest the regime. March in September to protest the fascism. March in October to protest the failed Legislators. March in November to the polls to be heard. NATIONWIDE PROTEST 8/30 RISE UP! OVERTHROW! END FASCISM IN AMERICA!

My county allows me to pick up my ballot in person in late September instead of having it mailed and I intend to pick it up in person, vote, and then return it in person avoiding usps. Honestly, fuck them!

Nice! I had my primary ballot mailed to me but I live in FL so I took no chances & returned it in person to an early voting site and tracked it until my vote was recorded. I have no illusions that it will be as easy in November. I will do whatever I have to, even if I have to vote in person day of.

I do wonder if these fascists might end up, performing the electoral version of a “dummymander” where they screw up the voting process so much that it interferes with millions of voters who intended to vote GOP successfully submitting their ballots. 1/2

I’m not saying I *want* the election screwed up, we should all want everyone to be able to vote there desired choice and have it counted properly. But it could be a case of FAFO when they start monkeying around with the process.

Hopefully Purcell will be respected: seriously not enough time to change for states like WA who vote entirely by mail. It would be a HUGE financial burden to go back to the olde-timey way of setting up booths, getting poll workers to man locations, making ballots or buying machines...

The rule was implemented Friday, so SCOTUS is lying. For places like WA which is mail in only, we need to start formulating a god damn plan B to get ballots to constiuents.

The “rule” seems to say “Send us a voter list and put a bar code on your outbound and inbound ballots. The list is secret unless ‘law enforcement’ asks.” No cross-verification, no reasons for rejecting compliant ballots. It’s the LE bit that concerns. The other side is what we should worry about.

I don't get it. Why would any registrar of voters send ballots to anyone not registered to vote? How would such a person even be known to a registrar? I don't get it.

Thanks. But, the continued degradation of the principles of the country’s founding takes me to the scene in West Wing when Sam Seaborn asks Charlie if he ever advocated the overthrow of the US government? When Charlie said no, Sam asked “why the hell not?” It’s time to do just that, a 2nd revolution

I am tired of being told of not "overreacting." We are living with what some years ago would have been sci-fi. Utter corruption and dystopia. Maybe it's better to acknowledge what is really going on and warn the public - instead of letting them boil like frogs.

Also, there is NO voter fraud! The few are the GOP's.This is yet another lie & distraction. VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE POST OFFICE, but not surprised.

Just when you think things can’t get worse, just wait a minute or 2 and that frown turns upside down.😆 He’s trying every trick he can cuz he knows he’s gonna get obliterated in November if he doesn’t cheat. Period.

John Roberts wants to insert uncertainty into our elections. Once again enabling Trump to act on his worst instincts. There is no longer a question that scotus has become a political agency for the republican parties. Understanding this is not a done deal.

I do think it is a pretty bad knock on the court that we actually had the rule published Friday and the ruling Monday. It isn’t a disaster but does nothing to help their credibility.

We've always had a "final rule". It's called the Constitution. This whole thing is to continue to punish Blue states and cities for refusing to bend the knee to His Majesty 34Felonies. It's no different than withholding disaster relief funds from Blue states. No purpose besides revenge.

Every eligible voter MUST cast their ballot! No excuses. No complaining about bad candidates if you didn't bother to participate in the primaries! Vote in person if you can. Or if you absolutely HAVE to vote by mail, send it off as soon as you possibly can. Make sure it's postmarked. And track it!

I mis-typed. They want you to live there "X" number of days, per year, and this is only the one county (Minnehaha). It wasn't kept *through* the election, but right up to the end, having the same result. There are but a few hundred of us, max, and we're not there, which is the entire SD reason.
