I'm certainly not a doctrine nerd but it turns out I really wanted to watch a Pope and his crew tell some racists to get fucked, but with love and Latin and undertones of "I still have this bat"

Watching people who are very good at wielding power, tradition, and formal codes of law turn that skill to the task of imposing consequences on people who have been wielding power, tradition, and codes of law to do horrible things without consequence for a long time is VERY SATISFYING.

It helps that Leo is incredibly, incredibly good at this, and seeing competent people in charge of things being competent in ways that fuck horrible people over is a really nice change of pace at the moment

I went to a university that was founded by an anti-pope*, and even I'm cheering for the guy in the Vatican * St Andrews, founded 1413 by Anti-pope** Benedict XIII in the Avignon line, although by then he was in exile in Perpignan ** not to be confused with anti-anti-pope John XXIII who was in Pisa

I'm busy doing auction shit, I don't have time for men who think I need to be seriously educated on whether or not the pope believes in abortion. I live in fucking Alabama, donate to an abortion fund and go the fuck away, random man.

Me, objectively not Catholic, at 11:45pm Wednesday night going to bed: "let's see what's on Bluesky" Me two hours later, 400 Claire Willett skeets into #SchismWatch2026:

Imputability We have a president who is devoted to keeping himself outside any circle of imputability Sadly he's had powerful enablers Mainly tho not exclusively the Senate and the Supreme Court bsky.app/profile/real...

Imputable!! We have high public officials who specialize in resisting being placed inside any circle of imputability My hot take is that restoring order across several spheres of life means saying yes to imputability

As a former medievalist, I'm chortling in utter delight. I'm utterly fascinated to be witnessing a Pope excommunicating a schismatic group at all, *and* I'm actually like, "Good choice"?!
