Everyone is so tired. Exhausted. And I'm talking to so many friends and colleagues who are hoping for a functional institutional power to come along and take care of them, take the annoying work and worry away. An employer, a publisher, a big funder, an elected leader, etc. I think it's just us.

"It's vanishingly improbable that anything long ago actually happened" is a fancy way of saying "nothing that happened before me matters."

AI has been foisted upon us, for sure, but one reason it lands with so many is that LLMs *feel like* a solution for loneliness/estrangement/isolation: People who crave feedback and iteration but lack the courage or social capital to get it. Showing a first draft to someone is exposure. /1

I don't know if I've said this before but I think I'm going to have to say it again a whole lot of times: The whole line of argument that "the problem is people are not clear on what they mean by AI" is about as useful as "actually Frankenstein is the name of the scientist not the monster".

Oh, do you like to fantasize that there was a magical time in the past when white men could live their whole long lives like Louis XIV on a diet of Pixy Stix? Guess what, you're in this time where we have real problems so cowboy the fuck up and vote for an adult
