That $366 million Elon is spending to try and convince voters that Congress should stay Republican? It's more money than McCain's 2008 campaign spent. But it's also, relative to Musk's net worth, the same as a household at the median income spending $32.

ctinsider.comThe 2026 question: Which is more powerful, money or people?Elon Musk has spent $366 million this election cycle. Philip Bump examines what that kind of money can buy in American politics.

The party and the candidates need to be running ads on "Musk's men and women in Washington (or state/district)" reminding voters - "When he's buying the office for them, who do you think they will represent? You ... or him?" and end with the image of him giving a Nazi salute.

Thank you for providing that context. It's hard to wrap our minds around the scale of Musk's wealth. If more people could, maybe they'd recognize just how his and other billionaire's influence distorts democracy.

people. if we look at those who have the money, they can often be like monarchs....inbred. the $ destroys them and everyone they take it from. the look is very clear....women like plastic dolls until they are replaced with younger ones, alot of drugs, bad habits....pedos.

I was going to complain about comparing wealth and income, then I locked it up and saw the median net worth in the US was only about 2.5x household income. It's still a bogus comparison, but doesn't change the magnitude. A median household would spend $80 to match musk relative to wealth.

So what is the conclusion here? That we have to fight the evil money power with educating the voters. People cannot counter it with money. People don't have that kind of money. Either we all go out and educate people to the evil that these oligarchs do or we continue to go down - with Democracy.

I was thinking about this same question today. We're either at or very close to the tipping point where the money wins and the people lose, and there goes Democracy.

trump’s war and policies are causing people to have to pay higher prices and losing much needed benefits. Doesn’t matter what lies they come up with when people can personally see and feel the consequences of Republicans’ actions.

Yeah, some are acting shocked he's setting records giving a few hundred million. I wonder why he's not spending double, 5x, or even 10x more. If he really wanted to promote his odious ideologies and the GOP it'd all be a drop in the bucket to him. I'm wondering what's holding him back.

Why would he, that's more than enough to secure the loyalty of every important Republican official and keep Democrats glomming onto his ass hoping for a taste. Are you holding back when you only pay $2 for a soda
