This is an important point. I was wandering into my parents' room and snagging random novels by the time I was eight, which required them HAVING a couple of shelves of random novels. (Also doing the same with my sister's room, but nobody wanted me to read Xaviera Hollander for some reason.)

My hottest AI take is that the executive class is petrified of labor and saw that whatever else LLMs are/aren't, they're fine labor-smashers + that a ton of ordinary people find the artificial hyper-complexity and scamminess of modern life and work so unbearable that they'll throw a god-box at it.

"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

I like this season's Document collection. Document is a Korean menswear brand that used to do minimalist-styled clothing that leaned heavily into distinctive silhouettes, although this season feels more heritage-y. In the US, they are carried at No Man Walks Alone and Namu Shop.

We published this story late Friday afternoon amid an avalanche of news so I’m reposting it now because Kohen Wiley’s life mattered more than a box of diapers.

So @lilianasegura.bsky.social and I just co-wrote a piece about the bodycam footage in the Kohan Wiley case. theintercept.com/2026/10/23/k...

Voter ID laws don't just block eligible voters — they also cost taxpayers millions. 💸 Voter ID is on the ballot in six states this November. If passed, states will spend millions on unnecessary new rules instead of things communities actually need. Learn more: voteriders.org/article/cost...

Brazil going the way of South Korea. Basically around the world women are desperately trying to keep power out of the hands of incredibly stupid fascistic grifters while men keep trying to hand it over. Men are an embarrassing cringe gender.

I live in a rural town and, like, I don't know how to tell you this, but the girls play on the boys team and vice versa all the time because otherwise we don't have enough players for a game and it's literally always fine so stop being weirdos about kids sports and just let trans kids play.

I just want to name that people overcame this. Even against a stacked deck, the good fight is worth it. Win or lose, it's worth it. And sometimes the good guys win.

Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Our research team is doing real-time coverage of emerging news and rumors related to election integrity. We put out several outputs this week. Several of the rumors we covered are still percolating. Some of the stories may become seeds for conspiracy theories later in the cycle. Some highlights...

Something that's not being said. The REASON why Blanche and Bill Essayli are so defiantly violating the Constitution is bc John Roberts said they can't be prosecuted so long as they're following Trump's illegal orders. Blanche's criminality arises DIRECTLY out of Trump v. US.

on reels and noting the vast chasms of quality between relationship advice that starts with "your husband" vs "your partner." and it's not about actual gender of your partner or spouse. it's about whether or not the advice giver assumes you *must* be a wife seeking repair.

Honestly several things are depressing about ai but the two that stand out are the eagerness of people to outsource thought because cognitive effort is uncomfortable, and the casualness with which people use the shiny, easy thing knowing it's bad for climate change

"But what do we do with the gifted kids, they'll just sit in class and twiddle their thumbs?" I don't know, I guess it's impossible for them to help their classmates, or work on a project in class that uses their curiosity and also teaches their classmates something. <shrug> Guess we can't!
