Pendulum always swings back. Just like how the crash was caused by greedy execs looking to pump too much into cash-grabs, we'll get out of this by supporting smaller-budget games made by creatives that are IN FULL CONTROL.

For large studios and publishers (and all the people they constantly fire), sure. For independent developerd, it's a golden age. The barrier to entry for making games and publishing them had never been lower.

I wish this was true, but it really isn't - the need to sustain a living still puts a lot of pressure on indies, it has a reason even great games rarely let the studios make a second one. Look at stuff like Stardew - the dev was carried by his spouse for five years. Few can do that.

this is very not true, publishers are generally closing their checkbooks and only funding safe bets pitched with a vertical slice. consumer perspective != developer reality

You can self-publish your game on major platforms such as Steam, or even the Switch Store. That was basically impossible for the vast majority of time video games have existed.

"Every company is being consolidated, we're firing a ton of people even when their games are successful, we're buying so much hardware that nobody can afford to own a machine, and we're pushing AI that nobody wants into everything. Why is the industry in such bad shape?"

its actually all just the first two words if you think about it, because you don't have any of the other stuff without billionaire greed.

The state of the industry is worse than ever... Yet, profits unprecedented. The only crisis this industry is in, is the one the CEOs like Sweeney want us to believe so they can fire everyone.

Tim Sweeney also thinks child porn should be allowed on Twitter. That said, the people saying the game industry is crashing really hard right now, are not wrong.

since the 1980s? you mean when the game industry actually truly started because nobody knew what the do with video games as a business until Nintendo showed up? we're currently doing worse than "what even are video games as a product"???

Devs get fired if their game doesn't make a billion dollars (failure) Devs get fired if their game *does* make a billion dollars (boss doesn't want to pay them what they're worth)
