Indies are evanescent unless they have copious external funding. They became viable only with desktop publishing apps & ebooks, but remain ephemeral. Yet they act as forges & catalysts, and nourish talent only to get poached by the big houses if one of their authors hits a jackpot.

I can’t believe no one else has mentioned Orson Scott Card’s Intergalactic Medicine Show (stopped publishing June 2019, archive still online). Yes he is controversial, but the mag was great!

Jackhammer (Eggplant Productions) was a SF&F e-zine back in at least '98-'01. As best I've been able to find, little or none of it was archived.

I also fondly remember — largely because they were my second pro-rate sale — an ambitious launch by a company called TM Publishing that rolled out four magazines at once: Emerald Sky, Crimson Fog, Burgundy Grove, and Azure Valley, and then collapsed under financial reality.

SILVER BLADE published my Santa vs. Asgard story "Nick's Last Flight" in 2019. I'd link the story every Xmas, but found the website gone in 2025. CLIFFHANGER! MAGAZINE's website disappeared w/o explanation earlier this year, taking my killer-hogs story "The Devil's Herd" with it.

tysm everyone for your help!! sorry I stopped responding, I came down with COVID-19 for the first time. it's just as much fun as I was led to believe... :(
