is abject stupidity a defense from an attempted murder charge? at the least we're looking at potential negligent homicide

A high school bully I knew who now is antiscience last year let her newborn premature son die instead of taking him to NICU and it constantly haunts me. You can just do that?? The week he was born >95% of babies survive w care.

I’ve always been curious where the money is coming from behind the anti-vax push. Meat lobbies have pushed seed oil conspiracies to promote the use of transfats. I wonder who’s lobbying against vaccines and why.

The supplements, nutraceuticals and other 'alternative medicines' industry. RFK has invested in CRISPR and his aide Calley Means sells supplements & herbal remedies.

I think a lot of it is more about creating a set of gullible single issue voters/supporters than it is about direct profit from alternative consumer spending, though OP mention of supplement/ lifestyle grift is also apt. I feel like that's grift that grew up around this more than the source of it.

In law school we read a case (from the 60s?) where native American parents waited too long to bring their kid to a doctor for antibiotics because their were afraid it would be used to take their kid away from them (it was common) - they were criminally prosecuted (I think manslaughter)

So the state used it to take them away from their kids? They may have had some valid concerns. There's also probably a significant difference to be played out in court (if anyone attempts to prosecute in this case, which would surprise me) between reactive medicine vs. preventive medicine.

I'm strongly pro-vaccine (and a bit horrified to have to say so) but there are legitimate worries I'd have about any legal mandate for vaccination. The interface between parenting and the carceral system, particularly for underprivileged and marginalized families, should be kept constrained.

My dad was a vaccine researcher so my views are a little out of the mainstream but if you dont want a vaccine and you dont have a legitimate medical reason we should send the cops to breakdown you door force you to get a vaccine and send you a bill for the cost.

the lady straight up says she'd do it again even knowing the kid would get encephalitis. what else might she do to the other children she hasn't killed yet?

I mean if you're gonna be a trad wife you might as well go full hog and watch most of your children die before adulthood

there should be like some kind of rational defense basis for this kind of behavior. okay you didn't give the provably safe vaccine to your kid. why? "it's got too much stuff in it" okay, jail it is

Why do we wait for one of the kids to be hospitalized or die before action is taken against the parents? Withholding vaccines should be treated as neglect the same as we treat withholding food or shelter. Take the kids and give them what they need.

funny thing about the modern anti-MMR push is it came from this hack fraud doctor who wanted to sell his own proprietary vaccine and faked research to discredit the established one bsky.app/profile/kait...

of course now you have the whole vast supplement industrial complex and associated grifts flogging shit that doesn't work by definition because otherwise it would be accepted by science

I have to remind myself that “No one is crazy” and “all behavior can be explained with enough information.” Still, some people can be really really wrong. And that being really wrong sometimes should have criminal liability.

She vaccinated 3/4 kids who recovered, the one kid she didn't vaccinate is seriously ill, but she still thinks she was right to not vaccinate him. She needs to be jailed for life, she is irredeemable.

This is similar to the abuse Jehovah’s Witnesses inflict on children who are forced to go out w/parents to “witness” for a weird end-times cult that thinks only 144,000 people will be admitted God’s kingdom. Education is a low priority & kids aren’t allowed to participate in after-school activities.

Jehovah’s Witnesses refuse transfusions & other medical treatments. Parents can now be prosecuted in the U.S. for refusing life-saving treatment. Vaccine refusal that results in death or permanent disability should be subject to prosecution for child neglect.

A good point someone made: Mom didn't want her kid to have vaccine becaus of "extra stuff" in the medicine but she's willing to have her kid pumped full of medicines like antibiotics, etc once he is comatose and facing the real possibility of permanent brain damage or even death? She's a fool.

Preventative measures reduce healthcare costs. Treatment for catastrophic care like this is supremely expensive. Anti-vaxxers are thus driving up our national healthcare expenditures, helping to push up insurance premiums for all.

Along with the parent, Social Media is also responsible for the suffering and possible death of this child. Because the algorithms prey on people who have limited critical thinking skills. Filling their minds with lies, their fragile egos with validation, and their lonely souls with community.

If that one early episode of Law and Order with the knock off Christian Scientists taught me anything, it's not necessarily murder if they have a genuine religious belief against the treatment. But that was a fake TV show and they were found guilty anyway because the husband snapped and called 911.

yo. why charge parents when rfk is right there? let's be hard on systems (and leaders) and softer on the individuals who have to navigate those systems

The mom talks about God choosing her son for a reason for this to happen… but then she talks about kids she’s “seen” given the vaccine and then they’re never the same again. (Oy…) But with her way of thinking, maybe God chose them for something, too… 🤔 (🙄) (These people don’t make any sense. 😞)
