calling this kind of shit "medieval peasant brain" feels kinda unfair to medieval peasants

Back in school I did a study on how medieval peoples responded to plagues and stuff - the aftermaths were very different if the conclusion was “god is punishing us for being wicked” (which arguably led to labor and law reforms) vs “the Other has caused evil” (which led to persecution)

almost nobody could read back in them days, and there was barely anything to read even if you could. nowadays we spend like $900 billion on public schooling, every imaginable book is available for dirt cheap (or free)

the other day my neighbor said that he doesn't eat McDonald's anymore because an AI generated version of Ronald McDonald told him the Shamrock shake has [spooky voice] "58 ingredients." he was holding a cigarette while telling me this

Wouldn't that be a selling point? 58 ingredients means they put a lot of thought into it. Now I'm craving a shamrock shake. Imagine trying to make one at home... best i can do is like 6 ingredients.

My wife was complaining about “E numbers in food”. She wanted to avoid eating something that had E330, “E numbers can be carcinogenic” she tells me. I looked up E330: citric acid. She watches too many Instagram reels.

Talked to a guy who refused to register a Philly SEPTA card for using the train because “they” could track him. He has a smart phone of course. Many such cases

At least medieval peasants have the excuse of being the n-th generation of an unbroken chain of subsistence farmers, what's these peoples' excuse?

"My boyfriend says birth control is a sin and he promised he would always pull out, so the CERN supercollider is the only possible explanation for why I missed my period"

I agree. Medieval peasants had an excuse for their ignorance, because not even the best minds of their era had much understanding of science or the human body. Today’s credulous ignoramuses have access to education but instead absorb a steady diet of anti-science garbage and urban myths.

yeah I suspect medieval peasants were too busy working themselves to the bone every day to get worked up as often as we seem to about nonsense, and their nonsensical explanations for things were usually for actual stuff that was really happening rather than imaginary things
