Parked smack dab in the middle of a protected bike lane. “It would be dangerous for our customers if we parked outside of it, with the bikes zooming past,” he said when I confronted them. If you live on Grand St. in Williamsburg, go tell them what you think – right outside of the Lidl.

Example 274838 of why enforcement is needed! At this level of enforcement they could be good capitalists and understand that the revenue at that location is higher than the random fines are

Or was a fine actually issued? SF has had issues where the relevant agencies simply lie about sending someone to address 311 reports.

I think this is definitely a thing in NYC. I saw a FedEx truck illegally double park to deliver packages every day. Every day a cop was there waiting and wrote a ticket. Cost of doing business in the city I guess.

Yeah the fines are way too low, companies just account for it as part of expenses. Henry Grabar wrote about this a lot in Paved Paradise. Also sometimes the companies (in particular the ice cream trucks were guilty of this) would just never pay them and would switch around license plates to evade.

At a certain point the city should pull the street vendor permit from anyone who gets more than one or two tickets for this kind of thing in a 12-month period.

I think the concept of even caring about parking in bike and bus lanes at all is very new. I was shocked they even ticketed them. I don’t think they would have five years ago. Baby steps I guess.
