More importantly, there’s probably a better way to get the same benefits as caged, they just have to analyze the reasons. I suspect it’s mostly b/c of lower land use, but feed probably plays a role too b/c organic feed also uses more land and fertilizer.

It feels as if I'm being scolded by some rich oligarch for not caring about the enviroment because I forget to place my empty glass bottle into the recycling bin as they fly around the world in their private jet. Because, you know, those two things are comparable in the stress they cause the planet.

And as you read on (which many do not!) It states analysis based on old data and that methods have changed. Very poor reporting, please do better.

Have you lost your minds, The Guardian? The author of this “article” would also have a smaller carbon footprint if they were behind bars … just saying!

Organic and caged are not mutually exclusive. You can have an organic egg from a caged bird if you refuse it medical treatment and feed it organically. I will, however, argue vehemently that free range matters to the chicken. And what matters to the chicken is what matters to me!

"However, the study used data from 2009-2010, which the researchers acknowledged as a limitation as it did not capture more recent developments in egg production. The research also did not take into account other environmental impacts such as pesticides or biodiversity."

Stop using fossil fuels then, if there is suddenly so much concern for the climate change the media has spent decades questioning and downplaying. Switch to solar and wind before you decide inhuman cruelty is an answer.

The levels of cruelty that exist in battery farming is disgraceful, and trying to push this as "better for the environment" is entirely disingenuous. You're basically saying "free range hens have too much freedom!"... I'm surprised you didn't call the hens "woke"

Ok so a paper lead by someone who has a bias towards factory farming, that doesn't give the complete picture, that only works if you care about producing the same amount of eggs (which we don't need anyway) said organic farming was worse. And people wonder why misinformation spreads so easily.

"... birds living in cages tend to be more efficient." What a multitude of evils are glossed over by that one word: efficient. The wrong conclusion is being implied in this article. It's not one or the other, it's neither. Why choose the lesser of two evils when you can choose none at all?

How about the damage the catastrophic illegal war in Iran is doing? How about those massive data centres? Come on! Chickens are chicken feed compared to those. You're really scraping the barrel with this reporting.

Also I may be a tad bias here (if the goose icon doesn't give it away that like farm birds) but I think having 1 thing that's not perfectly great for the environment is worth it if it means less chicken torture. Until we can lab grow eggs this is the only really somewhat ethical way to farm them.

I imagine this is based on the same number of 'free range' chickens as the ones in poultry concentration camps. The density of chicken population uncaged is unlikely to be the same as incubator bred factory population so let's start again with the truth.
