Hakeem Jeffries cannot become speaker in 2027. It would be a colossal waste of power and opportunity for Dems to elevate him again. They need to choose someone stronger and preferably isn’t to the right of the vast majority of American voters on healthcare.

Of course, it’s not just polling that matters here: Medicare-for-all would have saved hundreds of thousands of lives at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. We have research showing it. For a Democrat to be unwilling to wholeheartedly embrace this policy in 2026 is disqualifying.

The reason why many Ds aren’t supporting M4A, isn’t because it’s not a good idea, it is. It’s because we have a $1.5 trillion deficit and $3 trillion in debt. + We need to rehire all the folks who were fired, shore up Medicare, and restore all kinds of programs that were cut.

But this is what the DSA candidates keep saying it's about the funding, it's about the donors, that's why we can't have nice things!

I mean, it doesn’t *have* to be Medicare for All. If someone has a better idea for providing public health care insurance for every American, then let’s hear about it. But any “Democrat” who doesn’t support some form of universal coverage in 2026 is in the wrong damn party. This is the floor.

It's not unattainable you fucking dunce. US spends more per capita on healthcare than similar countries with worse health outcomes. You don't know what you're talking about. You should not participate in conversations about healthcare policy. Shut the fuck up.

If we abolished ICE, it would be a bureaucratic snd logistical nightmare. >20,000 people would lose their jobs. It would do away with US Customs and more. When states got tough on drunk driving, they didn’t abolish cars. They went after the drivers. We need to do the same with the rogue agents.

I’m also just kinda sick of this same old news cycle: Progressives win, Jeffries goes on TV to talk about how they don’t really represent the party at large. Republicans don’t do that. And they’ve been winning.

The “government understander” is the most obnoxious type of liberal apologist. Justifying weakness with appeals to nebulous political and institutional realities the common folk just don’t grasp. It’s simple: Jeffries has failed to meet the moment. Democrats deserve better. Country needs better.

People who have zero understanding of the job of caucus leader have some thoughts

Supporting your base is how you get your base to support your candidates. Corporate Dems support the corporations that pay for their campaigns.

Also wild when a democrat wins & immediately they talk about bipartisanship and reaching across the aisle. But we voted for you to enact a democratic agenda! Not to concede ground to the team you just beat! Republicans NEVER do that, it’s all about ramming their agenda through. Do the same Dems!

Both parties are definitely not the same. One party is proud of what it does, one party could not possibly exhibit more shame whenever it accomplishes anything. Can't imagine why the first party keeps winning elections.

Republicans also expend ZERO energy bragging about bipartisanship or even trying to meet Democrats or their voters in the middle on ANYTHING. Why do elected Dems waste so much fucking energy on voters who won’t ever vote for them, while distancing themselves from voters who DO vote for them?

Yes! And everyone should be on the same page. But you cant lie to voters and say we're going to have Medicaire for all, because you may not be able to implement it when you want to because dont forget, Trump is still President. There are other issues as well. And there's Trump's mess to clean up

WTF. The height of the pandemic was 2020. It's disingenuous for someone to say this & has EMT in their bio to not remember there was no vaccine until Dec '20 & vaccine rollouts weren't available until Mar-Apr '21, not to mention the overwhelmed hospitals, no supplies and communal graves. I call BS.

Hakeem can make a real nice speech using every alphabet letter to make a very exacting word. And that’s where the buck stops. Very disappointed, he talked such a good game. I’m disappointed with Booker as well.

I agree, wholeheartedly that we need new leadership in the Democratic party. Until then attacking the Democratic Party is horseshit. The fucking enemy is the fucking Republican Party you fucking morons.

Jeffries supports healthcare for all, just not Single Payer system right now, preferring to defend the PPACA ( Obama Care ) model. We want the same things, it’s just how to get there as GOP/Trump already have many scared we’re “Communists”. The Red Scare works. Romer is Marxist, not Social Democrat.

I support this. Nancy Pelosi has served us well; why she chose Jeffries as her right hand aide .... We also know Nancy well; smart lady. Maybe she didn't want anyone to compete with her. Consider a different Speaker. Same with Schumer; he's 75. I'm old but prefer someone younger.

You fucking moron. First, this is how we got here. You think you fucking know anything at all about anything? You don't give a fuck. Pre-bashing democrats. What the actual fuck. All the fucking left does is hand power to fascists for to sound lefty. fucking humanity. what a fucking failure

If you are going to allow weak sauce dems to be sitting you are not getting the message. don't split the vote and vote the best (most progressive)in NO MORE APATHY. Everyone votes ARE YOU REGISTERED DO IT NOW

Vast majority of voters? Last time single- payer was on a state ballot (CO 2016) it lost by 50 points. And the reason it will never win if put to the voters is because no rational Medicaid recipient would ever vote for it. Also, M4A is a neoliberal program that leaves in place for-profit providers

He foolishly self enumerated today by giving Aid to an ongoing insurrection that also includes a depopulation project that is a grave violation of the IHL. He is now disqualified from holding any office. This must be categorically enforced regardless of political affiliation @aoc.bsky.social

What should he do? Hold the congress hostage with a hand grenade? His party is in the minority. He can jump up and down and scream, and he is still in the minority. What do you suggest he does?

His response to abolishing or making changes for ICE left a lot to be desired. Democrat legislators and leaders must say what they mean & mean what they say, and not be so mealy mouthed about issues, especially those of such import as ICE. There's no place for ICE in US neighborhoods.

He smack talks his own party more than the opposition. An opposition, mind you, that is currently the most destructive and violent political movement in the history of the mfing nation. He needs to be censured, punished, and penalized. Not just refused leadership.

This is my second greatest political fear. MAGA loses but the DNC doesn't change one damn thing. But they'll continue to take credit for "Democrats winning everywhere." Resolution 1 submitted by Ken Martin.

He’s like chicken and waffles. You never know which loophole he’ll fall in due to the syrupy-sweet BS he’s fed and - well - he’s a feckless chicken (no offense to our poor poultry friends). This entire timeline is a joke.

Let's just win the house first. That is the most important thing. Nothing else before that matters. That simple. We need to win before we decide who gets to be speaker. Win. Full stop. Anything that distracts from winning is counterproductive.

Big money will likely keep him there. It’s a real problem that goes beyond just a sucky personality. PAC money has its hands so far up congress’s ass it’s coming out of their mouths.

Agreed. Two years ago, I thought it would be great to see a minority speaker of the house. I still do. But this man is not the leader that is needed right now. He has been essentially absent since Trump took Office and now he wants the top job. It’s a no.

Instead of "to the right of the vast majority of American voters on healthcare" don't you mean "beholden to the healthcare industrial complex donors"?

I wonder when the American people finally understand that their bi-partisan system is not a real democracy but an illusion of it where both parties exist to protect the oligarchy at the expense of everybody else there is no real "left" in the US and Dem's are just the other side of the same coin...

I'm fed up with the Democratic-controlled House and Senate being utterly inactive. They should be replaced with young, ambitious people who can fight for our rights instead of passively accepting almost everything.

Bad as it is, hasn't anybody been able to connect the dots? There should be some kind of ground rules that anybody under AIPAC control can never be put in a position of power unless it's back in their homeland. Shalom mr. jeffries. Now go the fuck away.

So you are advocating pissing off the CBC and the black voters they represent because Jeffries would be a weak Speaker? And going into 2028, the Speaker is not even going to be that powerful a voice, the presidential candidates will get all the attention. Risk is not worth the reward.

Will settle for anyone but a christian, jew, or muslim, but I will settle for anyone but a christian. Preferably a non-religious person, someone who doesn't put their fantasy before the constitution. Never ever trust anyone who believes in gods! You never know which god they will force on you.

Absolutely. There are so many better options for speaker. Ro Khanna, Robert Garcia, Sara Jacobs, Maxwell Frost, Jim McGovern, Melanie Stansbury, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Summer Lee, Joaquin Castro, etc

This man is not a representative for the people. Sadly, he appears to enjoy the perks of his office, far more than doing right by Americans. It's time to get dirty money and those who take it out of our government.

I support universal healthcare. I’m not committed to M4A and I don’t know why anyone would be since there are known flaws in Medicare. It’s disingenuous to argue that people don’t want to improve healthcare if they don’t support the one possible solution of M4A

HJ is extremely unimpressive in speech and action! Sanctioned his own Al Green for protesting during T's lying SOTU!😡 Will make a lousy speaker even if the Dems win. Absolutely no backbone and no animation in the face even; why would anyone listen to him?

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has received between $1.3 million and $1.5 million in career campaign contributions tied to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and its network. He does not work for us.

ICE, all part of it.......... think outside the square. Health Care? Can not be given when most of the money required to give you even subsidised health care goes to Israel. Wake up buddy; you exhibit traits of how we got here in the first place. Stupidity and an inability to be informed.

Ro Khanna, AOC, Jamie Raskin, Robert Garcia, Jasmine Crockett are some of the names that come to mind to replace Jeffries. Don’t forget Schumer needs to go as well. Both Schumer and Jeffries would be doing the country a great favor by stepping aside.

Black peole are being hung from trees, and the best you can do is attack Hakeem Jeffries. THIS is why Black people need to strongly consider how we vote in 2028z

If the Dems don't change course and back real progressive solutions, they'll lose again in 2028 regardless of what happens in 2026. Step 1 is to stop the internecine war on progressives. Step 2 is to dump Jeffries and Schumer. And step 3 is to grow a spine and start to fight like they mean it.

I wonder who would make the best selection? I would vote for AOC, but she appears to want to run for president. Wait! But that’s in two years. Let’s give her some more experience of being a leader by being Speaker of the House in 2027!

I disagreed until I saw him spouting bunch of (false or mostly false) GOP talking points and equating then to the DSA. He is acting as scared as Trump is, which calls his motives into question.

Agreed but I don't see a viable alternative. Jeffries would be the first Black Speaker. He's also well regarded as a competent coalition manager w/ a good fundraising machine. Finally, the most likely alternative - AOC - won't challenge him because she's thinking about the presidency in 2028.

McCarthy definitely is a tail-risk possibility for Jeffries but it would first require Dems underperforming in the 2026 midterms so that the margin was razor thin in the House & second, a viable alternative candidate to show up. No one wants the first & we currently don't have a second.

These chucklefucks have sleepwalked through a travesty and they don’t know WTF they are doing. They need to attack on multiple levels and they are playing it old school “smart”… We need to tap angry creative people that have media skills and progressive expectations of leadership.

Amen, sir because you are preaching to the choir! Speaker AOC please! But Schumer is far worse at his job and David Hogg was 💯 right about the DNC too - Democrats need a leadership change across the board This is should be the imminent nonviolent coup we can do to save ourselves

I won’t disagree that Jeffries has little fire in his belly, but if you’re looking to David Hogg as some kind of political guru then you’ve lost me there… Anyway good to see that Dems are going to split apart again. Just like 2024 that delivered Trump. GOP counts on our purity tests.

Hogg is a not a savant or anything but a real person let inside to see the dysfunction and his critiques about the geriatric pro-oligarch leadership and their failures to adapt to rising inequality and counter MAGA are crystal clear to all now I don’t know who made the call on “weird” last cycle

It’s time to do the work is now - problems don’t get better by ignoring them and split risk increases when the leadership does not reflect voter values; it’s part of democracy to adapt I vote blue no matter who in Generals but in interim a cleaning needed to keep things aligned with we the people

Like what team are some of these centrist people on? Biden’s former commerce secretary Gina Raimondo is leading a $500 million war chest against universal basic income on behalf of Big Tech The class war is the only war - the Democrats need to pick a side forwardfuture.com/newsletter/o...

forwardfuture.comGina Raimondo Says Basic Income Would End America. Her New Billion-Dollar Org Is How She Plans to Stop It.RAISE US bets on retraining as an alternative to UBI—but the evidence suggests AI displacement demands a bigger solution.

Hogg would have done a lot better at DNC if Ben Wikler had been elected chair. As I recall Ben was saying during the campaign that he was looking forward to working with David. All Ken Martin did was attempt to silence him until he quit ALL of the Dem party groups need to be dismantled and rebuilt

AOC or one of the younger Demsnwilling and ready to take the reins should do so! Jeffries is NOT the man for this moment; we need leaders who are ready to get in there and fix this broken system, not perpetuate it.

I’ve always believed the place for AOC isn’t in the Senate or the White House (yet). Her firepower is needed leading the Democratic caucus in the House.

And the bubble, funded by mega corps, says the people doesnt represent what they want - organized grift = Dems - chaotic grift = Repubs. - 80% bill is the key - have to follow trump lead and just take over the party - fuck the Dem leadership.

I mean, if most of the party weren't controlled opposition, maybe. You're going to have to replace almost all of them before they'll stop pretending to represent you. They're not working for you. They're working for the people who pay them.

I prefer to withhold judgment until Dems have majority. Pelosi always told candidates and incumbents to run the race they need to run. Is Jeffries own seat secure? If Jeffries gets the gavel, doesn't prosecute Trump, doesn't shift left with the rest of the country, then we call for his head.

Haven't you learnt, shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted is too late. Change now or let the establishment swamp roll on. Don't be fooled it's as much these moderate Dems fault that American politics is such a dismal cess pit of corruption & ineffectiveness, as it is the GOPs

I agree. Dems have long made too much effort to "work across the aisle." But there is no value in airing a full "DSA" platform. Majority cannot be won if independents/moderates aren't ready to be "radicalized." Result? GOP majority + Jan 3 2029 is NOT the date REQUIRED for House to change hands.

Agree. He'll be a terrible, absolutely terrible 3rd in charge. But he'll be nonetheless, & this party will have to deal with the consequence in 2028, which will be *far* harder to win the presidency when he's speaker for 24 months beforehand. He will singlehandedly make everything harder to win.

What I don't understand is that if Jeffries doesn't want to isolate middle Republicans, why is that a reason not to vote for him? I believe in abolishing ICE, but with such a large majority that doesn't want abolishment, in order to work across the aisle, there has to be the optics of compromise.

There is no reasonable way to compromise with fascists. So having a leader who is constantly looking for a middle ground gets nothing done.
