My guess, Wang and Ma wiped the data themselves and fled weeks ago, taking their research and data with them. My guess, they are not in the US and have not been for a number of days. The government is many stepa behind.

We don't know that /anyone/ was arrested yet. This is the whole problem. We don't know much of anything and while I might expect the FBI to be tight-lipped, the university just scrubbing his profiles and saying absolutely nothing makes the whole thing pretty suspicious.

America has joined the Communist trio(China, North Korea and Russia) Don't come & tell me they aren't called Communists any longer, they are Authoritarian. Changing a name doesn't change their beliefs. These countries abduct people, never to be seen again and the same is happening in America now.

“In recent weeks, Wang's email account, phone number, and profile page at the Luddy School were quietly erased by his employer. Over the same time, Indiana University also removed a profile for his wife, Nianli Ma.” The question is, “Why would the university delete his information?”

We need to keep a database of how universities are responding. It's not that I'd expect them to protect their people from the US Government, but there's a huge difference between "Due to an open investigation we have temporarily suspended Professor Wang with pay" and "Who is Professor Wang?"

Regardless of whether a crime was committed or not there is still the concept of due process. Innocent until proven guilty by a jury of your peers. The school is collaborating with a fascist regime and must be called out for what they are. I hope they are both alive and safe.

"The FBI conducted court authorized law enforcement activity..." If a court approved this there's likely evidence of crimes committed. When the US finds a spy, they rarely arrest them, just watch for a few decades.

To learn more about "disappearing people," as practiced by the Nazis, read the Bernie Gunther novels by the late Scottish writer Phillip Kerr. First 3 are collected under the title Berlin Noir. Gunther is a former Berlin cop who starts a detective agency. www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/305129...

In normal times I’d assume the FBI’s onto something like this. (Trump’s illegal actions against immigrants confuses the situation and the university’s bizarre scrubbing of info confuses it further.) 📌 bsky.app/profile/thei...

This does not look like they "were disappeared". People have been chained, deported on cameras, not in secret. And why wait 2 weeks to do a search of houses in front of cameras, and getting a proper warrant? Does not add up. Maybe he and/or his family were sleeper agents/spies? Also big news...

So where is the warrant for us to see? I suspect this is what we are to expect when a government runs without law. No warrant has been shown and 2 people disappeared without a trace. We are in a police state.

Having a sympathetic judge rubber-stamping warrants and then using said warrants to fish for a reason to arrest them is functionally the same, but with a veneer of legitimacy. Their whereabouts being unknown and their profiles being scrubbed means they're being disappeared, warrants or no warrants.

Presumably, being in the US without a valid visa would be sufficient - and that is easily arranged. bsky.app/profile/prem...

SCOOP: The Trump admin appears to be going into a visa database to quietly change students' immigration status. It's coming entirely by surprise — setting students up to be detained without warning. It's Mahmoud Khalil & Rumeysa Ozturk — on a wider scale.

Apparently he has not been arrested or charged, but we should demand to see the probable cause pretty quickly to confirm that this is not a McCarthy-esque witch hunt against a valued member of our community.

Is Meidas keeping a record of the “ dis appeared”? , @DailyKos, are you keeping a list? I phd student at Univ of Alabama; 1 at Tufts; 1 at Columbia. A Russian Science Researcher at Harvard. A 20 year Indiana University professor,a cybersecurity researcher fired, disappeared with no known reason.

Yeah, I saw that and very much wanted to know what the hell is going on. Obviously if I was writing the story it’d turn out he’d joined a travelling folk band and was fighting crime.
