Youโ€™re a city slicker arenโ€™t you? Where I live, guns are used by children as young as 12 and adults as old as 100. Because living in a rural area requires hunting (and fishing) to stock the freezer with food for the family. Bambi also needs to be culled so as not to overpopulate & spread disease.

She didnโ€™t break the law though did she. Thatโ€™s the problem with the gun laws. Remember itโ€™s all about the NRA & gun manufacturers making a ton of money & buying our Congress. Plus the lack of responsibility gun owners take as gun owners.

Not sure is she should be charged , buying guns for your kids is the norm in the USA .I think the real problem is the gun culture in the USA , and the fact buying guns for your kids is normal . There is an estimated 42,000 to 45,000 firearms sold in the United States every day . WTF America

Probably, but inevitably she's going to have to live with the tragedy that she enabled and I don't imagine that's going to be a pleasant existence. Personally, I couldn't live with knowing that I was responsible for the deaths of three small children.

I agree. Parents should be held accountable for the actions of their children. They should have skin in the game of rearing their kids. Train your children, keep guns away from your children. You give your kid a gun, you vouch for their behavior. Period.

Now that ALL of those NRA zealots have been OUTED as incapable of recognizing a 1)a pattern of Russian propaganda in their own media 2) a lying thieving narcisisst wannabe dictator 3) the wannabe dictators minions I THINK WE'RE SAFE IN TAKING ALL THEIR FUCKING GUNS AWAY--THEY AIN'T PROTECTING SHIT

When there are minors in the home it ought to be illegal to allow them access to firearms. They need to be locked up with biometric locks only the adults can open. If minors commit gun crimes because they were allowed access, parents ought to be arrested too.

Are there no extenuating circumstances that donโ€™t relate specifically to her purchase of the gun? Like knowing your child is disturbed and allowing him out of the house unsupervised since he is a child and under your authority? Itโ€™s a stretch, butโ€ฆ

My daughter just started teaching in Bend after relocating there this summer. Sheโ€™s shook & heartbroken as are we. That could have been my daughter and her first graders. Iโ€™m sick to my stomach. I drove a school bus in IL when Sandy Hook happened and let me tell ya, that was one quiet bus office.

It worked in Michigan. The parents of a school shooter, age 15, were tried & convicted of 4 counts of involuntary manslaughter. They got him a handgun & left it unsecured. They are serving 10-15 years each & the boy Ethan was convicted of 1st degree murder & is serving life w/o parole.

Georgia too. Father of a 14 year old was found guilty and sentenced to prison. That trial was wild to watch. That man knew what his kid was going to do. He even had his other child lie to police about what he knew (the child later retracted her statement).

Just like the Sandy Hook massacre. Adam Lanzaโ€™s mother was culpable. The only reason why she wasnโ€™t charged was that he murdered her first.

Of course she should be held accountable. Her son was in the special ed classes growing up that he had issues with making choices and decisions. She gave him a gun therefore she should be held accountable also. She should be arrested. ๏ฟผ

A local mother bought her 16 year old son a 900 cc sport bike the day he got his learners permit. Within hours he was dead after crashing at over 100 kmh on a residential street. These 2 deserve the same sympathy and responsibility.

Criminal convictions of parents for school shootings committed by their teenage children: - Apalachee High School Shooting (Georgia, 2024) - Oxford High School Shooting (Michigan, 2021)

I think she is responsible to a lesser, though extremely serious, extent. I don't like equivacating actions that aren't equivalent in terms of law. We can hold both accountable to the extent that is reasonable. We should have good judges and juries of our peers making those decisions.

why do people have to be 18 to go to war, vote and be held accountable yet .... any age to use a killer weapon ... esp young men who are immature can be unstable emotionally and then act impulsively with whatever is right there to grab. talk about stupid.

It has not been made clear that the mother bought the gun FOR HIM, simply that she did purchase it. Regardless, I believe do that parents are responsible for their childrenโ€™s actions, and that the boys parents should be held to account.

She is. Sheโ€™ll try to weasel out, but she will fail! โ€œI didnโ€™t knowโ€ or โ€œI just lost my childโ€, ainโ€™t gonna work! She needs to get ready for a long State-sponsored vacation!

Did the murderer's mother raise him to hate special needs children? Then buy him a gun? Did he write a manifesto like the would be shooter in Palatine? These are questions she needs to answer.

Absolutely. Parents should be responsible for their minors. Why on Earth would you give him a deadly weapon?

The Oxford MI shooterโ€™s parents are in jail for buying their deeply troubled (known to them) son who killed four students and wounded a teacher and 6 other students in Novemberโ€™21

What is angering to us who live close by - not in Oxford, but town just south - no one at the school is being held responsible and they were the ones that let the parents say no weโ€™re not bringing him home and did not search his backpack. Kind of pisses me off. ๏ฟผ

Most 16 year old boys want a gun. Most parents know it is a terrible idea to give their 16 year old a gun. If your kid has suffered from mental illness most of his life and wants a gun you KNOW someone is going to die, likely including your kid.

Presumably there was nothing whatsoever about his demeanour that might have given her cause to reconsider her conscious decision to buy him that gunโ€ฆ..? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Michigan made it happen- the parents of school shooter Ethan Crumbley went to prison in 2024 for 10 to 15. I agree that it should be a precedent. Teenage killers don't grow up in a vacuum.

Ms Hart, did posting this pic make you feel better? If accurately identified, you posted or reposted a pic of an underage male, without parental permission. Even courts prohibit this. His mom, if accurately identified in your post, could sue you. Please remove.

Heโ€™s dead and so are others because of both of their actions. Maybe shame will prevent others from buying their disturbed children guns. Doubt his mom has a leg to stand on and she should have thought of that before buying the gun.

@support.bsky.team This picture shows an underage male. Pic's text says he's the one who did Bend, OR shooting. EVEN LIVING KIDS ACCUSED OF A CRIME AND FOUND GUILTING ARE PROTECTED; THEIR IDENTITIES, PHOTOS, AND LIKENESSES ARE HIDDEN. BY EXTENSION, IMAGES ID THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS ARE OFF-LIMITS

Agreed. Bad decisions & parenting on her part led to the death of innocent people. As a result unnecessary loss is a result. Those little ones didn't deserve to feel the depth of fear they were subjected to, prior to having their young lives stolen. My thoughts & prayers are with their families.

Accessory to first degree murder and attempted murder. One count for everyone that died and was shot. Serve all sentences consecutively in the general population of the most violent maximum security prison. No plea deals. No parole. Let the ladies work on her for the rest of her short ass life

Agreed - parents that are behind the scenes making these horrific events possible should never see the light of day again...irresponsible in every sense of the word...

Yeah, this image looks kinda "off". Would be helpful to get some verification. If the text is true tho? Regardless of the image? That s**t if f**ked up.

If I had that kid for a student & he was giving off the vibe in that pic, Iโ€™d be sending up red flags left & right. But my school has strong psych/social support staff & pulled lots of kids back from the brink. Most schools do NOT. Plenty of $$ in US for illegal wars & billionaire tax breaks tho

She knew her son was troubled but still bought him a gun. She is not only complicit in the deaths of the 3 children and teacher, but she also bears responsibility for the death of her own son.

She never addressed the reporterโ€™s question about where he got the gun. She will be arrested and brought to court over thisโ€ฆas she should. Thereโ€™s now precedent.

He doesnโ€™t look like the type of person Iโ€™d give a gun to, however. I meanโ€”he looks like a loner whose only friend is his mother! Take that as you will, but itโ€™s my opinion. Heโ€™s not even smiling for the camera!!

Why are these Mother's buying their Psychotic sons Guns. The Sandy Hook Killer, he Killed his Gun buying Mama before he went to the School. Maybe this one plan to kill her After?

A long gun costs less than good mental health care...so while I think any parent who buys a "troubled kid" a long gun (any gun) is being stupid and selfish, I also think female single parents are the easiest to blame. Could intervention at any age have been possible for her?

Xela. Iโ€™m English and Iโ€™m sure many Europeans also follow you (youโ€™re quite funny, also politically sharp). Anyhow, explain to us ignorant Europeans why anyone would need an assault rifle if it wasnโ€™t for murdering people.

In this case, it was not an assault rifle. It was a pump action shotgun, according to news reports. Still a very efficient killing machine at close distances.

Heidrun, Firstly, thatโ€™s a very lovely dog!! But do you know how ridiculous it sounds to someone in England explaining that the massacre was with a pump action shotgun and not an assault rifle. They are all guns!! They are only designed to kill people.

Antonia thanks you for the compliment! She's my third (and last) Great Pyrenees, all adopted from rescue. A lot of them end up in rescue here. The distinction between types of guns is important here, because there is zero chance that shotguns will ever be outlawed (or even strictly regulated) here

Many Americans are gun hobbyists or collectors or simply want something that looks cool. Most gun violence in the US is commited using handguns which are actually banned in England to my knowledge.

Yes they are banned. You can only really get a gun license in the uk if you can prove itโ€™s for sporting purposes or something like a farmer who needs to control vermin. The rules are very strict and also once you do have a gun license you have a regular inspection by the authorities.

And you idiots in USA doesn't realise how stupid your gun kontrol is???. You have 3-4 times more weapons than your citizens! For protection my ass! People should not have weapons at all. Period!!!๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿ–•๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฎ๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€๐Ÿ’€

In the end it doesnโ€™t really matter. Since he canโ€™t legally own a gun it was HER gun and she failed to keep it out of his hands. If you own a gun it should be 100% in your control and you are responsible for anything that happens with it short of it being stolen from an appropriately secure storage.

Going to high school in New England, I had normy friends who were that age and had shotguns for hunting. So it's not necessarily true across the board. But this lad was clearly not playing with a full deck, and there had to be signs of that. You give a kid like that a gun, you should be liable.๏ฟผ

I think parents who love their children beyond reason may know theyโ€™re angry and disturbed, but may be in denial theyโ€™d ever go that far. I was an angry, weepy, rebellious teen. Many are. My empathy ends with buying any child a weapon, regardless of how well-adjusted they seem.

Sadly, the chain of events that lead to this tragedy funnel back to one decision to get this boy a gun. Also sad that time only goes forward and from this day forward, that mother, and his victims parents have to live without their children because of that decision. One decisionโ€”so much death.

What part of 'troubled kid' says buy him a gun? Honestly MOST kids probably shouldn't be given a gun. Unless they're in a well regulated militia like the second amendment says.

Because theyโ€™ve actually codified that. In red states the gun nuts would scream bloody murder if there were any laws protecting people from guns. Theyโ€™d claim their child couldnโ€™t bear arms against an unjust government. You know, like the one weโ€™re living under now that they fully support.

Can anyone u detstand this??? It happened some years ago in Connecticut. The mother outfitted her son with weapons. He killed Children in a school. This Oregon mother should be arrested already..her son who was mentally ill is dead now too..what kind of mother is she!!

It's just bizarre to buy a gun to your child. This particular boy doesn't look jolly enough being allowed to cut carrots.

Is it established that she bought the gun FOR him? Or did she buy the gun and keep it in the home where he had access? How did she store it? None of this brings the dead back. None of it erases her part in the deaths though she may not have gifted the weapon to him. Facts are unfolding.

So sick of this shit, prosecute the mother with jail time & have it on the front page of every newspaper & TV networks. An example has to be set to quell.

I donโ€™t! A lot of rural area parents buy long gun a for their kids for hunting my sons grandfather bought him a shotgun for bird hunting kind of a right of passage. That 16 yo was the captain of his own ship! However misguided! I donโ€™t see punishing her for anything. She is also grieving!

When my children reach an age of understanding I let them know exactly how I felt about life and killing! Never waste a life animal human or otherwise. Iโ€™ll turn you in. Never go anywhere with a stranger even at gun or knife point! Go crazy running screaming Iโ€™d rather you be shot than not knowing!
