In the Japanese PC-88 port of Ultima 3: Exodus by Pony Canyon, if you try to Talk/Transact (T key) to an enemy monster, they literally say "FUCK YOU!!" in English. Hilarious, and apparently nobody has discovered or posted about this before online in English or Japanese

Things Gavin Newsom has vetoed this week: -A ban on secretly recording people with smart glasses -A ban on ICE agents working for the state government -A ban on websites selling your data -A bill giving native tribes more say over water rights -A bill protecting transgender healthcare providers

There are actual good and responsible uses of AI, lest you think I'm just a total hater. I do wish we'd focus on that rather than all of the other bullshit.

The rush to accuse, without anything approaching due diligence, artists of using "AI," should be treated with contempt. An artist gets their work *ripped off* to train a plagiarism machine, which then shits out inferior versions of that work, so then you accuse the artist of using "AI"? Fuck you.

Wow. LOISH got accused of using Ai to make her art. I started following her on early deviantart. I remember first seeing her paintings in college. This is ridiculous, no one is safe. Artists Ive followed for actual decades are getting harassed because their work has been stolen and regurgitated.

"mind-boggling" is doing a lot of work here

Visitors to the US are on track to drop by almost two million year-on-year. “We’re the only major country in the world losing visitation,” the head of the US Travel Association said. “It’s mind-boggling.” www.semafor.com/article/09/2...

The wife and I both still call it Kinko's and will always call it Kinko's. Like Twitter, rebranding something so entrenched is a dumb idea.

Wife: Unlike SOME PEOPLE, I'm going to wind down and go to bed. Me: What, you don't find System of a Down calming after midnight? (Incidentally, SoaD totally holds up after all these years. I remain grateful that we got 5 amazing albums from this amazing band, even if I've always wished for more.)

With the A.I. companies buying up all of the computer storage these days, I'd like to offer up the solution we used in the 1980's to double our storage for free. You are welcome. #old

Back in the day I wrote a little program that generated a shuffled list of CDs to play, since my collection was so huge. These days all those discs are ripped, but I still prefer playing full albums. So I just did a 'dir /s/b' on my collection and pasted it into an online shuffler and voilà!

In 1980, Intel introduced the 8087 floating-point coprocessor chip. Plugging this chip into your IBM PC made math 100 times faster, good for CAD and spreadsheets. I opened up the chip to reverse-engineer exactly how it does complicated calculations. Let's take a look inside...

Lockard's story is incredible. He appeared on a 1987 "Computer Chronicles" to discuss turning his Mahjong Solitaire game into Activision's "Shanghai." www.computerchronicles.blog/computer-chr...

The original Mahjong Solitaire (Brodie Lockard, 1981) on the PLATO looked glorious. Also clever to show stack height with outline width.

Trey Parker & Matt Stone announce that ‘SOUTH PARK’ will be renamed to ‘SOUTH AMERICA’. “Inspired by the bravery & patriotism of Apple & Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount -- a Skydance Capitulation.”

When I upload a video of a choral performance of a Renaissance work, I occasionally get a copyright claim, which is obviously bogus. Of course YT says it won't affect my (non-existent) earnings or channel, but I still dispute it on principal just cause it annoys me someone is claiming this stuff.

Well, this is the weirdest thing I've seen all year. This was a race against bipedal robots but someone used a video filter to make them resemble humans. As you do. 😂 That's enough internet for today.

Nothing tops the euphoria of a great concert like sitting in your car for 90 minutes inching through traffic because the venue's surrounding infrastructure is completely incapable of handling it. And then driving 50 minutes to your house since it's in the boonies to begin with. 🙄

This was kind of fun to figure out. I feel like I must have at least passed through Minnesota and/or Virginia but can't prove it, so they stay "never been". Everything else is pretty solid in my recollection.

OLD and GOOG thread: A few months ago Lucile Gomez contacted me because she was interested in a typeface based on her handwriting. She has no twitter but you can follow at Instagram (lucilegomez). And in this image you can see in black its handwriting and in red the font I made. So, a thread 1/X
