Metro Transit Operator Adam Best is a familiar face to kids at Kinderberry in St. Paul, always waving as he drives by. Now, he’s back to bring more smiles, trading his bus route for story time with “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!” 🚍

One of the great "what-ifs" of the past decade is "what if Minnesota United just kept one of the best pure goalscorers in league history, played him 2500 minutes a year and just built out the team behind him?"

New research on Chicago's speed safety cameras. 🔹 They're generally sited in places with lots of kids and a history of crashes. That's good! 🔹 No link btw race and camera placement 🔹 Cameras were less likely to be sited in poor communities, leaving residents at greater risk doi.org/10.1016/j.jt...

I know I'm a broken record on this, but one part of what is going on is that people have literally no idea what the US immigration system actually is; effectively, that there are no pathways into the country legally for someone who wants to wait in line.

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

New Marist poll of Texas finds 61% say undocumented immigrants should stay in US if meet certain requirements. Only 35% say they should leave. A majority of noncollege white men (Trump base) says stay. Supports my case (see piece/thread below) that Trump opened way for new pro-immigrant consensus

Love to see the New Nicollet nearing completion. (Former K Mart site). Best part is definitely going to be how the 18 bus route will speed up without having to detour.

I didn’t attend climate week but: 1—US is falling way behind on electrification 2—even if US electrified, electricity generation isn’t decarbonizing fast enough 3—public incentives & land use policy are still vastly weighted toward inefficient cars & trucks 4—transit ridership remains in crisis

"Even by the lax standards of the United States, where automobile companies go for decades with minimum government guardrails, the automated vehicle industry has been a brazen example of the dangers of libertarian capitalism," writes Bill Lindeke in this week's Cityscape column.

As the climate scientist Wally Broecker memorably put it, "the climate is an angry beast and we are poking it with sticks". The more we push the climate system past where its been for the past few million years, the bigger the risks of larger changes becomes.

This has been a big summer for our BRT lines, with record-setting monthly ridership on the Gold Line, Orange Line, and E Line. The B Line and D Line also had their second-busiest months ever this summer. Thank you for riding with us!

Underappreciated: US farmland *already substantially produces energy, not food*, and does so very inefficiently. Corn ethanol (~40% of all US corn) requires about 100 times more land per vehicle-mile driven than solar photovoltaics -> electric vehicles. Shifting corn to solar *would free up land*.

Cameron 🇺🇸🗽🦅@cameroncorduroy.bsky.social

anytime people raise concerns about land use for solar projects or anything like that i just want to point out that half the corn we grow in this country gets used to make gasoline slightly worse

MLS needs to shift the league schedule to "alternate timeline where we jail big oil execs and get serious about addressing global warming in the 1990s."

Ben Wright@benwright.bsky.social

Playing through winter weather was a primary concern for the MLS calendar switch, particularly for northern teams. But heat index will hit 110º for tomorrow's Nashville–Miami match. This is bad for fans and objectively much more dangerous for players than the cold. Fewer games in this is good.
