Tonight we are witnessing a profound moral contradiction with an Israeli government facing credible allegations of genocide, being treated as a legitimate democratic partner by Western governments and endorsed by the USA for reelection.

It’s a fact that 70,000 were killed including 20,000 children. Probably more. What message are we giving our children? What world are we building? And why is this not the biggest talking point of the day?

There’s also a lack of object permanence the media has with these people; each time another racist comes to light, it’s like there’s no memory of the last one, or the dozens before. Almost like they have an inability to sport the pattern, or notice it’s a feature, not a bug.

There’s a problem with the media coverage around the racism in the Reform Party. Most of the focus seems to be disgust that we have racists in Britain and the effect on the party. What about saying or doing anything about the actual racism itself and its damage to minorities, mainly Muslims?

The issue with racism in Britain is the pattern of shock, surprise and disgust. When we platform racists at the highest level, fail to call them out at dinner tables and in pubs, what do we expect?

Many warned about Farage when he was racist to Romanians in 2014 on @mrjamesob.bsky.social show, referring to Muslims as a fifth column and defending Chinese racist slurs. Thats over 10 years ago. The system and people building careers have contributed to this being normalised. It’s no surprise.

There is without question a global campaign to demonise and weaken Muslims. It’s horrific. But it’s having an opposite effect. It’s bringing Muslims together. I have never felt more connected and obligated to my faith or my Muslim community.

I cannot stand by and see Muslims treated this way when I have a privileged platform. And it’s telling who offers support, who justifies being a part of the hate and who allows their careers to benefit from it. This isn’t just a test for Muslims. It’s a test for all our humanity.

There have been strong words of support for Palestine and protestors from Ed Miliband and the Labour govt. On arms, he has said the UK is not supplying bombs or bullets. A Channel 4 investigation found that the UK had supplied 110,000 bullets to Israel as well as £400k worth bomb and missile parts.

The UK’s position is that the bullets are used for training, sport or are re exported. But with a govt brazenly breaking international law how can they trust them?

Why are Russia banned from playing football by authorities but Israel are not? Both stand accused of an illegal war and atrocities, Israel of a genocide. The response to Russia was swift. Are these double standards? Is it a level playing field?

As a Pakistan fan, the numpty protestors are very welcome to protest outside the hotel of the Pakistan Men’s Cricket team and send them home early. Thank you.

In 24 hours, we have learned from Reform that they don’t think people from abroad should stand in politics but their money is most welcome, “thank you”.

Many will look at Zia Yusuf as doing the racists work for them and clearly racist. For many of us this will show how entrenched racism has become. Yusuf probably thinks his racism will reward him. He understands more than most, the political currency it provides. Racism is no longer on the fringe.

Zia Yusuf has tweeted this about the leader of Camden Council, Sagal Abdi-Wali, who has lived in Camden for over 35 years, after arriving as a child refugee in the early 1990s. (Nadhim Zahawi, born in Baghdad to an Iraqi Kurdish family, came to the UK as an 11 year old:should be asked about this)

How many times have you had this problem? We don’t always see people on the phone, social media and radio. When we don’t we get by. Some Jewish women don’t use the internet at all, some women in convents don’t mix at all. Is that all ok? Freedom of choice, yes?

The problem is it’s harder to communicate with someone if you can’t see their face. Yes they can choose to cover up, that’s their right. But it does cause communication problems and perhaps suspicion?

If an adult woman chooses celibacy, covers her hair, dresses modestly & spends her life in a convent, we call it religious devotion. Or when a Jewish woman chooses to cover her hair and live private not public. If a Muslim woman chooses to cover her face, suddenly everyone wants to liberate her.

A column is published in the wake of Jason’s passing trying to push back claims of racism. Without once mentioning the racist and eugenicist, Nathan Cofnas who published the details of the plagiarism allegations. He said Jason was “not smart” enough to be a professor.

Cofnas has called for a revolution that means black people “would disappear from almost all high-profile positions outside of sport and entertainment”. No mention of that or indeed Jason’s autism and the known relationship with suicides. Jason we are sorry.

Musk shared a free download to a film on X that promotes attacking migrants and portrays them as rapists. One Muslim family of a perpetrator are murdered. A few weeks ago we saw pogroms on our streets. Imagine if I promoted a film that attacked Jews or Christians? Why is he allowed to do this?

The UK Home Office has said Gazans can no longer claim asylum based on the war alone as the intensity of attacks have reduced. Cases to be judged individually. (National Scot, The Sun, Yahoo) On Sat Netanyahu claimed Israel controls 70% of the area. Smotrich announced plans for more settlements.

I mean, people of colour literally have lots of ‘legitimate concerns’ about racist violence at the moment. But the phrase wouldn’t feature in coverage if any of them decided to attack random white people in response to it.

Adil Ray@adilray.bsky.social

If Muslims or members of the Asian and Black community had set fire to white people’s homes with children running for their lives, do you think we would be discussing legitimate concerns or focussing on who radicalised them and ideological and contributing cultural factors?

To my media industry. Last night we saw a pogrom. A racist violent attack against people of colour aiming to expel innocent human beings from our streets. This was not chaos, unrest, a riot, a scary incident but a pogrom. Let’s be accurate if nothing else.

I cannot believe today of all days some are still discussing immigration in a way that dehumanises. It’s damaging. There is no such thing as illegal. They have human rights. And they make up just 3% of all migrants. And the majority of those allowed to work make a valid contribution to the country.

For months now fellow Muslims have talked to me about leaving the UK. One professional Muslim mother asked me “will they really make us leave, Adil?” Many don’t know who is going to help them? Who? Yes racists win, but one’s safety matters more when faced with pogroms. That many simply call unrest.

Politicians and many in the media have fed an anti immigrant, anti Muslim narrative with little nuance, facts and failed to explain migrant levels are at their lowest. If that’s you, you have no right to be shocked at the sight of immigrant homes set on fire. Some may say, this is what you wanted.

This is a good point. Would place him in a stronger democratic position?

scotfi1.bsky.social@scotfi1.bsky.social

Genuine question, why has he not been selected for Makerfield? If they're so desperate for him to be part of their 'shadow cabinet ' why doesn't he have the guts to stand in an election?

If Reform’s Zia Yusuf is concerned about black and brown people gaining systemic advantage over white people, maybe he should stand for election like others in his party? Surely that’s fair to all Reform members. In 2024 Yusuf donated £200,000 to the party. Weeks later he was named Chairman

Should Yusuf stand for election? Could you argue that his wealth and background gave him an advantage over others? Did Reform appoint him to combat racism claims? To appear more diverse? Did the system give him an advantage?

Almost zero coverage of the worst anti Muslim hate we have witnessed in the UK in our lifetime. This is deeply concerning and hugely damaging. How the nation responds in these immediate days is vital. A lack of response is the worst possible response.

Yesterday Far Right leader Tommy Robinson and his followers openly called for Islam to be removed from the UK and us Muslims to be remigrated. If he had said this about Jews, quite rightly, there would be a national response. But it has been eerily quiet today.

After Trump's latest shocking threats, Keir Starmer faces a choice. Withdraw US access now to UK air bases, or risk letting British soil be used to commit war crimes.

Last week Trump was compared to Jesus. Today is Easter Sunday. Many Christians will be insulted by this, as Muslims will be too. A reminder he is the Commander in Chief and has authority to do the unspeakable. Will anyone in his team and party speak out? Or does he have their full support?
