Anchorage Police Dept lowest use-of-force year on record: still 3x Portland's rate. Still 2.5x Seattle's. In a city with lower crime than both. Alaska Native people are 7% of Anchorage's population. They're 45% of everyone APD put hands on. The audit dropped. Read it. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...

Yep. The fascist project requires society-wide brainrot. And that means conditioning people to ask MechaHitler to tell them what to think.

They're screaming the quiet part out loud. A Trump regime scheme to shift a whopping $200 billion into AI projects and away from traditional university research isn't just because it wants smarter computers American fascism also requires dumber people My new column www.inquirer.com/columnists/a...

In Minnesota, you don’t have to show ID to vote *or* register. Perhaps coincidentally, we lead the country in voter participation while having essentially zero cases of fraud.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was murdered by ICE. His three sons called him “El mundo entero” — the whole world. They watched as their whole world died in a video posted on Facebook. Lorenzo was our neighbor and fellow Texan. He deserves justice.

As far as "books for kids" go I do sometimes wonder if the existence of a YA shelf robs young folks of the joys of early unsupervised exposure to the ranting of depraved communists and libertarian sex-weirdos in the SFF section, an important inoculation when it doesn't destroy 3-10 years of yr life

Fascinating podcast. Found myself cheering out loud as @roopikarisam.bsky.social championed #archives & #libraries (as well as community organisations & #education systems) as key to building a data & #AI literate world. #AILiteracy #dataliteracy

Unpopular view but I think a lot of problems in unis could be helped by capping the maximum wage at 2.5 x full time entry lecturer pay (as lecturers do most of the core university work) which might increase lecturer pay as a side benefit to cutting a lot of nonsense.

If you're serious about all of that, Graham should spend less time calling a victim a liar and more time making amends with his accuser and with communities of women who have been (and continue to be) harmed by sexual assault. Make reparations instead of perpetuating harm.

Every historian knows that memory is fragile. Stories disappear, lost, forgotten. For decades, Opal Lee worked to keep the story of Juneteenth alive because she believed it mattered. She reminds us that preserving memory is an act of leadership—and sometimes a story can change a nation.

Donald Trump lost the 2020 election. That is a fact. It has been certified, litigated, and confirmed in court dozens of times. The White House is instructing its judicial nominees to treat that fact as a controversy.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BLUMENTHAL: Who won the 2020 election? TRAYNOR: This issue has become a question of political controversy B: It's 'political controversy' only because Trump refuses to accept the results T: It is not appropriate to engage in discussion regarding that B: So you're going to use the same script

If only someone could figure out how to make milk safe to drink! It'd be such a big deal the process would be named after them.

Things down here are, to my knowledge, the most extreme example of higher education censorship currently in force. They’ve banned almost all content on sexual orientation and gender in teaching, and, in a startling low, grad student research. It’s unconscionable, offensive, and wrong.
