Followup: Discord Support reverted the account to my email address for recovery, and I was able to get it back. I still worry about the potential for back-doors remaining for a 2nd-pass attack, so I still don't expect anyone to trust that account, but at least I was able to get back into my servers.

And not "now that we have power, let's work with the fascists to find bipartisan solutions to the problems the fascists created."

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

Records show Arnold does not apply force equally. Arnold disproportionately used force against homeless Portlanders and Black Portlanders, according to the data.

The Mercury pulled data from PPB’s use of force reporting dashboard, which is regularly updated 45 days after the end of each quarter. The data was analyzed by a third party, and verified by the Mercury.

It's ridiculous that someone was paid nearly $900k for being fired, but even more outrageous that the Albanese government refuses to say why they abruptly terminated a Secretary when there were hundreds of thousands of unlawful payment cancellations.

The government deserves to be howled down every time they tell us that they can't afford to give us nice things when apparently there's always infinite money available for people making the world objectively worse.

Anyway, this is stupid and I hate it, but I also dumped the NY Times years ago over their thousands of reverential trips to diners in Indiana to interview Real Americans™️ about politics.

Substitutions is actually one of those weird, fuzzy jobs that the best solution for is "ask an experienced human." Sometimes subbing in a different kind of fruit is unnoticeable, sometimes it tanks the recipe. Sometimes gluten free bread is fine, sometimes the result is inedible.

Based on second-hand experience, anything leaning on AI to talk you through substitute ingredients is basically just a culinary roulette wheel. It could work! It'll probably get you to a solution that worked for someone under some circumstances. But it could also totally screw you over!

The measurement stuff for sure. AI is what’s going to ruin thoroughly tested recipes with random substitutions.

If you're padding out your majority with Sinemas and Fettermans and Cuellars... what do you *actually* have

And again, this is not a tactic that even works. But assuming it did, why would you bother

Agape reposted

Another question I have about the idea that you can triangulate your way to a senate majority by antagonizing trans people as a campaign tactic is, then what. You end up with a majority that evaporates on anything important like abortion rights or impeaching a criminal administration

I think Kat would make a great political appointee at DHS during the next Democratic administration

Today is the anniversary of being told by an FBI agent that I was about to be federally indicted. I tried to look for pictures from that day but all there is the tableau of full-body stress hives all over my back. 0/10, take better pictures future Kat

We’ve known about this since the 1980s. I have an idea on how to stop it. It’s not complicated. Yet we still spend taxpayer $ studying this & other things we’ve known abt for decades bc in the absence of regulation, we need to fool the public into thinking we’re working on solving the problem. 1/3

Some Lula supporters apparently shouted his name out their window when it was announced he won and a cop pointed his gun at him and they took what is possibly the greatest image of a cop ever taken, like genuinely this would go hard as a cover for a Rage album its so poetic.

the only reason not to impeach Trump is if you're going to jail him instead. if that man is somehow not able to be prosecuted under the American criminal justice system then nobody in the entire country should go to jail ever again

ok, abolish the criminal justice system

Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea. I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there. I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…

The "Holy Mantra of Grift," espoused by the vulture capitalist, is: "There is always Profit to be made from a corrupt Government and the sufferings of a People under the yoke of that Government. If the corruption is taken away, then so is the Profit." Their greatest fear is that you understand this.

Oh yes. Get prepared for a spanking from Wall St as punishment for electing law, order, and accountability Democrats who once again get stuck repairing an economic crisis created by money grabbing and hoarding Republicans.

I greatly appreciate the nuance and thoughtfulness of this thread (my original post was a pre-coffee groan of exasperation; ironically, it's my least thoughtful posts that often seem to gain the most traction...)

Some context around this, from a markets person. Historically in LatAm, leftist victories have led to sharp losses over the ~3 months after an election where the left wins. Stocks also typically underperformed into those victories. But 3y post-election, returns for leftists have been *higher*.

If in the foul Year of our Lord two thousand and twenty-six you imagine a midterm wave is an opportunity to buckle down and hammer out some sensible bipartisan legislation, find another hobby and cede the field to someone who understands what time it is.

Agape reposted

No. Your attitude has to be that absolutely nothing will get done. If you’re trying to “pass common-sense legislation to help the American people”in this environment you’re a fucking traitor.

Among Israel's Jewish voters, the opposition have a very thin majority. Nearly 50% of Jewish Israelis support the government despite its failures and crimes. It is thanks to Israel's Palestinian citizens who voted in unprecedented numbers, that Netanyahu has no chance to form a government.
