Truss is clearly deeply wounded after her term as prime minister. It can be no fun to consider that, despite a serious effort from her predecessor Boris Johnson, she is widely regarded (and not just by the people she so despises) as the worst premier in the 305-year history of that office. Fabulous

This went on for the rest of the full hour, at which point the BBC apologised for having to go to the weather and urged viewers to follow continuing live coverage on iPlayer. Forty-one minutes of unfiltered, unchallenged propaganda by a far right party with 8 MPs, now third in the polls. Discuss.

It struck me that almost every seemingly intractable problem on today's front pages could be substantially alleviated simply by taxing the extraordinarily wealthy people and corporations whose greed, short-termism and pursuit of power we protect at the expense of almost everything else.

Some in the DUP are, again, trying to collapse Stormont, as consequences snowball from the bizarre Parades Commission decision to allow the Orange Order parade to proceed down the Garvaghy Road for the first time in almost 30 years at what was a notorious parading flashpoint during the Troubles.

This is damning. So much could could have been done at the time, with what was known about COVID, and with what what resources we had. It’s hard not to read callous neglect into these findings. And that intentional neglect was layered with lies - like the “protective ring” - which did not exist.

The Inquiry’s overarching judgement is that fragmented responsibility, ignored warnings, poor data and inadequate planning created conditions in which Covid could spread “like wildfire”. Social care’s neglect was longstanding. During the pandemic, its consequences became catastrophic.
