We’re already there but many in charge are still turning a blind eye to the facts… still lured by shiny promises of smoke and mirrors, while the livelihoods of many keep getting screwed. 🥲
not to mention AI did the "first hit's free" thing by not charging for AI usage at first, but now that all these companies rely on it, they're driving up the price per token and now AI shit is even more expensive than regular filming expenses
Apologies for the radio silence of the last few days. It's been a while since I last made a full fledged poster-sized illustration and I always forget these take me forever to finish. But it will hopefully be worth it for the spooky holidays. Hence, a sneak peek 👻 🎃
Cost of linking your sites on Meta: $ Your soul and then some
Cost of linking them on Bluesky: Zero, nada, zilch
You tell me which is a better deal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Ideas are a dime a dozen. Execution through materializing via thoughtful, patient, hard work is what gives them value.
And no, prompting them to a slop machine unable to elaborate on the “why” of its processes isn’t it.
the idea phase is the easiest and least valuable part of professional creativity.
read the first draft of the first Star Wars if you doubt me
Great art is made in the grinding, often miserable collision between the ethereal substance of an idea and the mud and blood and friction of reality
Well I live on a different context and for my first AA / book fair ventures this year I've made my money back and then some. However show organizers are getting greedier with tabling costs and the minute the ROI isn't worth it I'll have to think of something else 🥹
this article confirms what ive been telling younger comic writers for years: unless you are very wealthy, there is no point to table in artist alley at a big show (unless table comped). you will not make your money back & your time’s better spent meeting people

This said I'm not restricting myself to comics shows. There are these council-sponsored local events where you end up tabling next to someone else selling jewelry and hot dogs. But they're free if you get in so whatever 🌭
It’s reasonable to charge extra for being forced to deal with AI slop, not just because it’s more hours. It’s often an insult to someone’s skills, and the content it generates is plausible-looking but full of holes, creating much more tiring work than normal questions/comments. archive.is/Kl5tU
Finally, a post clearly summing it up.
The growth through learning that only comes with putting yourself through the process - they don't get it. They see it as a burden.
But it is precisely in that burden where mastery is forged.
AI people think the only value in anything is the final output (result, picture, song, story, etc) when the real value is always in the input (ideas, effort, thought, work).
My big hot take about all this social media buzz as an artist right now is that you guys need to go outside a bit more and build your reputation and communities in the real world.
You have no idea what you'd be able to do if you don't say hello to your fellow neighbors.
My Instagram account happened to be a ”business” one. As I have barely used the perks associated with business account status, demoting it to personal was a no-brainer. Least I can do.
Still, how I’d wish people weren’t that attached to FB or Instagram - one less headache for me to deal with.
Does this all read like a "okay, we give up" statement or what?
Having a tech background, I can and do understand how AI has rewritten the parameters of many tech workflows for good. But concerning work where human craft and emotions is what matters first and foremost, I see no place for it.
The Cartoon Network leak revealed that the team actually wrote fake interviews for the Powerpuff Girls in-house so that the writers could understand them better and honestly this is incredibly useful for learning how to characterize your characters holy shit
⚠️ A massive leak containing model sheets, puppet rigs, storyboards, and other materials from Cartoon Network shows have been spread on the internet.
Fans are speculating that the Skydance merger (as Paramount’s content is very notorious of getting leaked) was the cause.
As Gen Xer, my artistic influences and references are already from another era, but I know Gen Zers today are either into anime or The Loud House. So I thought "what if my OCs were in TLH?" and... well, here you go.
Now I'm liking these versions more than my own, lol.
Just in case someone's wondering: I barely felt anything and nothing broke or fell over. Some peers say they felt like they were on a swaying boat. 😳⛴️
Here's an excerpt from "Kid Beowulf Odyssey" in which Beowulf and Hama arrive in the land of the Lotus Eaters.

I am building a website for my Coativille (Villa Pizote) comic series and realized I needed an expanded version of the comic's cover for a responsive background. Of course I can never settle for simple 🥲 so it has expanded into an A3-sized spread that can double as guard pages. Now on to coloring...
And finished, this took me quite some time, as reusable content is actually minimal and had to redo many things 🥲 but anyway, I also exported a monochrome version to see how could it work for book guard pages.
I usually design my business cards to be conversation-starters.
But at after too many endless awkward discussions at recent events, I realized I needed a new type of card. The conversation-ender.
Today in “fck Adobe” (and any other greedmaxxing software maker).
I can see this well replacing most of the tools we use on a regular basis, not tomorrow but... in a bunch of years, eventually? 🤔
Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source.
Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update.

hey #coloring folks of bluesky! I've got a new #coloringbook out. It is 100% Human Made, #noai ever ever ever (I LOVE DRAWING why would I want a bot to do it for me??) and #witchy as heck. Medium detail so crayons and big markers will be fun. Get it direct from me!

Crowdfunding a la Kickstarter et al sadly isn't a thing in my country yet so financing creative projects is extremely hard as is unless you get lucky to win a state grant or pony up the moolah yourself. Therefore Matt's "experiment" is of special interest to me and I'm glad he's succeeding at it.
Dang yall, thanks so much for the support 😭 Usually I ignore the random AI accusations but I wanted to take the chance to talk about how important it is to do your research in times like these. Didn't expect to get soooo many kind comments though! We gotta stick together, my beloved art community ♥️
Wow. LOISH got accused of using Ai to make her art. I started following her on early deviantart. I remember first seeing her paintings in college. This is ridiculous, no one is safe. Artists Ive followed for actual decades are getting harassed because their work has been stolen and regurgitated.
#kidlitartpostcard day!
I am Dolo Okecki, an 🇦🇷 artist who has mainly illustrated middle-grade books, textbooks and comics/GN. And love picture books with animals.
Repped by Astound in the US., UK and most regions, contact details and samples at www.dolokecki.com
Available in 2027 but times flies.
When some comics became intangible online, paper became *visible* to artists again, leading to beautiful new paper comics.
Now, when some "art" becomes inhuman, *we* become visible to ourselves again. What beautiful new *human* art might be the result?
Have been thinking about this (it was bound to happen sometime anyway) but what I think it will happen is younger artists having harder than ever to prove their work isn't deceitful slop. At least I still have some old, horrible amateurish sketchbooks from the 90s to provide as evidence. :P

The same could be said from picture books, GNs and the like. Even if AI´s sources were finally ethically correct and all that to produce them, they would still suck in the sense that creative art and writing are intimate exchanges between *human* minds and worlds, not fabricated hallucinations. 📚
Remember, fellow artists: it’s okay for your sketchbooks to be messy. That’s kind of the point. It doesn’t have to be fancy like those sketchbook tours on Instagram.
Funny thing is I gotta remind myself that sometimes too. lol
So I'm here trying to finish a piece for tomorrow but... let's just say everything's incredibly hard when you feel like rowing through molasses all the time. 😪
