For more than 160 uninterrupted years, federal law has prohibited troops wherever an election is held. The Insurrection Act’s grant of authority to the president does not supersede Section 592’s prohibition on armed people at the polls, writes @lorenvoss.bsky.social and @nkorpett.bsky.social.

No, No, no. Look, are there lessons to learn from this debacle? Sure. Drone warfare, mag depth, etc. But the solution here is not 'yet more tactical excellence or tech.' It is 'the president asked the impossible of the military and they should have said so.' www.theatlantic.com/internationa...

In short, there are valuable lessons we can learn about drones & interceptors & magazine depth & mine-sweepers, etc. But the key lesson is: no amount of tactical excellence can salvage strategic incompetence. Who lost the Iran War? The American voter did, that damn fool. And he ought to feel it.

Can't get numb to this: The United States is stuck in a war it started, cannot end, and may further escalate to no avail, having dismantled its diplomatic apparatus, depleted its military stockpile, and destroyed its credibility. A historic strategic mistake harming millions in many different ways.

This is a BIG red flag. Ahead of the midterms, Donald Trump FIRED all members of the independent Election Assistance Commission—people confirmed unanimously by the Senate to make sure we have free and fair elections. We can't let Trump rig the next election.

Yes, and: #RFKJr & allies are making money on all this. Then we have Russ Vought who wants to tear down everything, Jay Bhattacharya and others who are still nursing grievances for their poor scholarship in 2020. Eugenics, nihilistic, religious zealotry and revenge are a heady dangerous mix.

Trump’s new budget adds an extra $500 billion to fund wars abroad — about $3,700 more for every household in America — while cutting health, jobs, housing, and education. Put simply, it takes more of your money for foreign wars, while making life in America even more unaffordable.

I worked for USAID in such shattered countries as Cambodia, Haiti, Bosnia, and Kosovo. USAID aid benefited US interests and saved countless lives there and elsewhere. That’s what we, the USA, should best be known for – saving lives. Sen. Susan Collins was wrong to not fight for USAID #MEpolitics
