My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

This assshole and the ndp party as a whole could have maintained power _this_ election if they had proportional representation but instead the BC conservatives get to fuck up our services for four fucking years.

IMO, not only is "AIs are going to lock in a lot of dysfunctional X" (for every value of X) a hugely under-discussed risk, it also goes a long way towards explaining the AI enthusiasm and blind spots of Furman and many others.

I voted! 🗳️ (absentee, online) Before I moved to Canada, I lived in Raleigh, NC. So as an overseas citizen voter, I'm a Wake County North Carolina voter forever (unless I move back to the States). If you're eligible to vote in the US midterms, I hope you voted too!

Why will control of the 435-member U.S. House depend on just a handful of 2026 midterm races? Because 81% of this year's House elections are so "safe," they’ve already been decided. Ranked choice voting & proportional representation can change that ⬇️

fairvote.orgMost midterm elections are already decided. Here’s how to fix the problem. - FairVoteWith the midterm elections just weeks away, most news coverage is focused on a single question: Which party will win control of Congress?

Just been such a revolution in my worldview to realise that people like Musk actually believe this, this isn't just the nonsense they feed the rubes so they can do coldly rational mercantile calculations in smokey rooms among themselves. No. It's rubes all the way down, they're that stupid.

i don't think we can come to a reasonable compromise with this

A reminder: Scams are (mostly) not in the Consumer Price Index.

I’m telling you that the extreme exposure to scams is a big part of the reason so many people are negative about our economic future.

Elon Musk boosted the lie that James Talarico stayed at a mental hospital. Meta suspended No Kings’ Instagram account during nationwide actions. Staff at the Ellison-owned CBS News were reportedly told to tie Abdul El-Sayed to the Muslim Brotherhood and 9/11. Democracy dies in billionaire hands.
