I’m not convinced a sales tax is inherently more regressive, especially if it isn’t levied on basic goods as some states do dream scenario would be a gas tax or other tax on cars, but our state constitution likely forbids it. big picture, having zero transit whatsoever is significantly regressive

oregon badly needs big picture structural revenue reform and i think a sales tax would inevitably be a likely component of any theoretical grand bargain that created new and reliable revenue streams to keep the state afloat, along with tax relief on other mechanisms
