Tomorrow is the 10th anniversary of this NY Times headline about more Anthony Weiner emails, which contained no new information, but were reported upon as if they were scandalous, and gave Trump the push he needed to get into the White House.

I’m old enough to remember when the promotion of democracy overseas was considered a major goal of US foreign policy.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

If you think it's just media literacy we have a problem with, I have some bad news about literacy literacy

My first five RPGs played (I think): 1. White box D&D 2. Holmes Basic D&D 3. AD&D (1st ed) 4. Villains & Vigilantes 5. Champions

Oh, we got a new computer but it’s quite a disappointment ’Cause it always gives the same distressing news. OH, YOU NEED LITTLE TEENY EYES TO READ YOUR LITTLE TEENY PHONE LIKE YOU NEED LITTLE TEENY HANDS TO MILK CASHEWS.

When I was in high school, NYC would generally see 1,400–1,800 murders each year. Now it’s down around 300–400.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

There's a scenario in which the Supreme Court gets this case in December and three justices involved in Bush v. Gore on behalf of Bush will be asked whether confusion is grounds to reject election results.

The Trump administration is preemptively suing to block Alaska from certifying a Mary Peltola victory, should she win. Their argument is that the double Dan Sullivan thing is confusing voters. www.reuters.com/world/trump-...

Just saw a thread of people complaining about high electronics prices because of the AI bubble, and one guy replied that this sort of resource mis-allocation would *never* happen in a *socialist* economy, and man, have Soviet bread lines vanished down the memory hole?

El-Sayed is going to forced to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood at least a dozen times more before the midterms. The point is clearly not the answer. The point is the question. It's basically push-polling.

Isn’t it time for *everyone* to understand that the billionaire owners of Meta, TikTok, and X have chosen sides, and they chose authoritarianism. Silencing critics online is not an apolitical act. If you continue to support these services you’re helping support the enemies of US democracy.

My biggest takeaway has been that the worst possible use for AI assistants is for someone is not already an expert in the field. So having students use it is really dangerous. They don’t know enough to know when it's leading them down a bad path.

In early 2025, I assumed the Trump regime would delete the Department of Justice’s press releases and other statements related to more than 1,000 Jan. 6 cases. So I downloaded them. We’ve now made them available to the public with a search tool. They can’t erase history. jan6memoryproject.org

Was watching Buffy’s Anya backstory episode. Friend asked why I sighed. “She’s not of a sufficiently high social class to have domesticated rabbits that far north in Europe in that century, but the writers couldn’t know, the paper was only presented at a conference yesterday.” Accuracy is fleeting.

Stranger Things is *full* of tiny little anachronisms! Hopper having an Ikea Färgrik mug on his desk in 1984, a year before the US got its first Ikea store. One of the kids having a rollaboard-style wheeled suitcase in 1986, a year before they were invented, a decade before they become popular.

Four reasons why I think MÖRK BORG's index is good. 1. It's divided into three sections so that you can quickly filter to the third you're looking for and not have to sift through as many irrelevant entries. If you're looking for a thing in the Rules, you just ignore The World and Creatures.
