Interviewer: can you explain this gap in your resume? Me: an unintended side-effect of employers doing everything in their limited powers to avoid being labeled as employers, I can not legally claim to be affiliated with any of them. I do however have the keys to a worryingly large nr of buildings

If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this. Google's AI now scans your emails and attachments, bank statements, tax files, medical letters, all of it. It turned on by default, and there's a class-action lawsuit over how. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:

Un guide intéressant et complet des alternatives techno hors États-Unis.

Paris Marx@parismarx.com

The United States is taking aim at Canada once again, with a crushing new set of tariffs. Ultimately, government will need to solve this. But in the same way Canadians are avoiding US alcohol, produce, and other goods, they should get off US tech products too. Luckily, I have a guide for that.

The reason why procgen in games is, as we like to say, a great way of getting twice the content with four times the work is that you can't fight Shannon's laws any more than you can fight the laws of thermodynamics. You can't give the audience more information than you were willing to put in.

i think, end of the day, the real problem with Bluesky is that most of its users are here *because* they want to be in a bubble. and they can tell themselves that it’s just about not being around Nazis it supporting Musk, and that’s part of it, but also there’s a palpable desire to be ensconced.

"Might they say no? Of course. But they might also say yes. We’re broken. We gotta keep shit simple. No complex planning. No calendar bullshit. No ranges of dates. No pencilling shit in. We are very much in “Get in loser. We’re doing crimes.” territory." How to stay friends

And when i say "content" i don't mean it in this awful "everything is content now to be consumed" notion but in a "stuff that is actually contained within the boundaries of our game" notion. But maybe i should stop to use the word all along

i am more of the view that it's impossible for LLMs to be used for automation myself

innes mck@innes.bsky.social

im pretty far on the anti-AI and LLM end of the spectrum, but you have to constantly think critically and reassert your reasons *why* you oppose it, otherwise you end up taking positions like "it's good to manually complete tasks which could be automated and doing avoidable work is virtuous"

ya can't learn to swim in a library

You don't teach a child what it looks like to ride a bike. You teach then to ride the bike. What it looks like in fact can be known before knowing what it is to do it. In fact it often is for many serious skills. I know what it looks like to pilot a plane well, but I don't know what it is to do it.

"Expanding a boundary is the wrong phrase or framing. This is more like cooking or gardening. We do new things and experiment to find what we care about, to find new things to share with other people, and to remind ourselves that nothing is static and that we can define the future for ourselves."
