I loved both Ghost games, Tsushima and Yōtei both sold very well, and Sucker Punch is not a massive studio by AAA standards. Huge bummer.

ai is a can of gasoline poured on every smoldering contradiction of capital previously kept in check by human inconvenience

Increasingly evident that the real reason AI companies suddenly started calling for regulation was (of course) not because they're afraid of 'superintelligence', but because they started to see the risks of AI tools... to them. To capital.

These companies are more than happy to steal your creations, supplant your livelihood (ineffectively), and destroy the planet/economy to do it, but when these tools threaten their own infrastructure, their own power, their own wealth... Well, that calls for government intervention!

I really like that Bill Hill, an AK candidate for Congress, did not throw trans people under the bus. I wish I could say the same for Mary Peltola. I do hope they both win, but I want the candidates who support trans rights to win by more, a lot more. Dems should get this crap out of their heads.

One thing I have noticed is that the anti-Peltola ads aren't focusing on trans rights, but more on her as a person, while ads attacking Bill Hill are completely focused on him being a 'secret liberal' (he's an Independent) who 'supports expanding trans rights'.

Notice the wording there, the attack ads aren't even trying to paint a picture of trans people as being dangerous, it's just naked bigotry against them in principle. It's really gross and I can't wait for this election to end. Again I hope both BH and MP win but I hope Bill Hill wins more.

the ads against them are so different, too. MP is hugging the right as closely as possible, talking about NRA and the border and all this nonsense. I don't think that sort of thing will work as well as they think (or as much as Dem advisors think it will).

To illustrate this with another beat, some of the reporting that the NYT has done on Alito and Roberts in particular has been groundbreaking. But the paper's day-to-day coverage of the Court does not capture how much of a role it has played in America becoming a competitive authoritarian nation.

Perry Bacon@perrybaconjr.bsky.social

NYT editors describe this tension between reporting on Trump and describing Trump frankly that I don't think exists. There is a real tension at play though: Describing American politics in 2026 directly versus being viewed as neutral and not being hated by Republicans.

One thing that still surprises me about game development? How iteration is so wildly effective at turning garbage into gold. "This sucks" -> Fix things that suck -> "Doesn't suck?! Whoa!"

I'll take the earnestness of a Wil Wheaton over the practiced, performative cynicism of a Tom Morello any day. Voting isn't everything, and I did not like Kamala Harris, but if your 'antifascism' compels you to let fascim win the White House, you are not against fascism, you are a brand.

I think it is crucial for the health of the Democratic party that the entire consultant class from previous administrations, including and especially Clinton, be told to go home and stop bothering people. They are wrong about everything and have been holding the party back for decades.

As the new CEO, it is imperative we improve the efficiency of our practices. With that in mind, I'm going to need you to spend 50% of your days making me presentations that demonstrate how you aren't wasting time.

Just remarkable that in this age of great existential challenges the biggest problem in government and the economy seems to be dumbass leadership intent on making things worse.

I just honestly can't get over that Save Women Sports, an anti-trans group could only find five trans athletes competing K through 12. Five. The NCAA president testified a year and a half ago or so that there were less than 10 college level trans athletes. What the fuck are we doing, people
