“duplication is far cheaper than the wrong abstraction” - Sandi Metz in “All the little things” at RailsConf 2014 The quote is often put out of context to support the idea it’s always better to postpone the abstraction until there’s enough duplication. #SoftwareDevelopment #oop

I need your help! I am removing this did:plc and migrating to my own did:web on Cloudflare. Removing as much of the centralised crap of atproto as I can. Can y’all please share and follow @rawkode.dev instead of this account?

I'm looking for new folks to follow on bsky, specifically around these topics: - Laravel and PHP - LLMs and specifically Claude Code - Apple ecosystem technology Got any favorites?

Are there any self-contained Markdown slide apps like deckset but work on Windows? Slidev looks interesting but seems like it's more of a "repo is a self-contained slide deck" and not a "use this app to open arbitrary Markdown slide decks."

Video is what got me into podcasts, back in 2007! I would download video episodes from Diggnation, @leolaporte.me, Tekzilla, @cnet.com, and sync them to my iPod for my bus ride to work. Now, 20 years later, Apple is relaunching video in their podcasts app, and @transistor.fm is an initial partner!

New: you can now watch video in Apple Podcasts! youtu.be/kNXcVroUQZE This could be nice for folks who want a mindful alternative to the algorithm, shorts, and ads on YouTube/TikTok/Instagram. @justinjackson.ca demoes the new features, and showcases @stephenrobles.com's video episodes.

Each time I work on a new OG image for an article, I'm reminded the devlog series flow from one to the next. Utterly pointless, but makes me happy.

Well, some progress. Not unhappy! Below, a screenshot of my Gopher browser, written in HTML / CSS. #GopherProtocol

@tjmiller.bsky.social Not sure what you are planning to charge for Iris, so not sure it's in my budget these days, but I am definitely interested in seeing it see the light of day! I feel you on the anxiety and second guessing yourself. If you need more encouragement: just do it!

Yes. My brain moves faster than my fingers to the point my fingers just decide to skip entire parts of words.

Today in brain-finger pipeline misadventures... Intent: "I want to learn" Typed: "I warn" When I saw it, I froze. "Wait, what was I trying to type?" Where did "warn" even come from?! Apparently my fingers just decided to skip "nt to le"? Is this a thing other people experience?

A lot of “UX problems” are really default problems. If a feature needs a tutorial, it’s usually missing a default. A good default does 3 things: 1) shows what “good” looks like 2) reduces decisions 3) gets the user to a tiny win fast Docs teach. Defaults convert.

Got some advice from a designer a while back that’s stuck with me. I asked how I improve my sense of whether things are well-designed or not and he said: design is about making purposeful decisions. If you can find a purpose for something being the way it is, it is likely well-designed.

Turns out building this as a Claude Code Skill was much better than N8N. Lesson learned.

I’m dreaming of an app where I start a session, I open a web page or a paper or an ebook, and I talk as I read. Ask questions, make notes, all natural language. At the end of the session the transcript gets saved into a summary note of the session linked to the media I was reading. Does this exist?
