My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Musk is lying about Ukraine using civilian Starlink on combat drones. Since February, any Starlink terminal operating in motion has needed military Starshield authorization. No Starshield – no connection. Using civilian Starlink on drones was technically impossible. Period.

What does ‘if she were rich’ have in common with the Dutch word ‘maar’ (“but; just, only”) and German ‘nur’ (“just, only”)? ‘Maar’ and ‘nur’ come from Germanic *ne wāʀī (“were it not”); *wāʀī is the ancestor of English ‘were’ in ‘if she were’. Click my new graphic to learn all about these words:

One thing we don't want to talk much is that we, as a society, have gotten a LOT richer. No, it doesn't mean billionaires, but billions of people out of extreme poverty.

But Putin won in fair democratic elections! Well, democratic elections. Okay, elections. Or... Anyway, he won, right? Multiple times.

When Zelensky was democratically elected in 2019, Putin had already ruled for 20 years. He even changed the constitution to stay longer. How can anyone talk about Zelensky being in power too long during a wartime election pause, when Putin has been in power 20 years longer?

When aircraft fight, they often leave winglet tips in the injured victim. However, this does not cause the plane any stress as they are anchored in the soft tissue of the wing and not the bone. When a winglet is lost, they simply grow a new one.

There's a lady (who is a mom) with a bookish IG account who regularly mentions my books in her posts, and she's so kind and lovely about it, but she always uses the hashtag #momswhoread, and never once have I read that correctly on the first try.

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

1/ The recent announcement of a new US armed forces autonomous systems combatant command has gone largely unremarked in Russia. However, Russian warblogger Yury Baranchik warns that it's a very significant development that Russia shouldn't ignore. ⬇️ bsky.app/profile/atru...

1/28 On 28 April 1789, the mutineers of HMS Bounty put their captain into a 23 ft launch with 18 loyal men and barely a hand's breadth of freeboard. Forty-seven days later, he stepped ashore on Timor. This is Bligh after the Bounty. #maritimehistory

Don't believe the LIES of BIG CORN DOG. These things grow WILD in wetlands across the US. That's why I always carry a jar of mustard when hiking, in case I feel like a snack. Let's talk about Typha latifolia, the broadleaf cattail & their remarkable seed dispersal capacity.
