where is the idea that AI is like Uber (where they are heavily subsidising the consumer-end product in order to Disrupt Markets and Get Everyone Hooked, only to plan to raise prices later) coming from? is this an Ed Zitron article of faith? it SOUNDS like an Ed Zitron article of faith

I don't really get this position if heat your home with gas. Like, the gas has to come from somewhere.

Issuing oil drilling licences + blaming wildfires on disposable barbecues = not really taking this seriously.

100% this. > 30 days payment terms should be illegal. Late payment fees should be 10x higher and enforceable by the HMRC. And these insanely enormous delays for licenses etc need to get sorted

William Wright@williamw1.bsky.social

As the owner of a small business I also want larger businesses to not wait 90+ days to pay their invoices, and government agencies to not take more than six months to process business critical licences, or more than three months to give me tax reference number.

There is clearly a miserable streak in the British electorate, ingrained by years of austerity and silly buggers governments, that makes people entirely unwilling to accept wins, or see politicians through anything but the most cynical lens.

You don't even understand the damage Zelensky did to Republicans midterm messaging by taking out that Russian bot farm.

Sorry to go on about this again, but I do think this is one of the best things on the internet. There are numerous examples to make my case.

And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services. Twitter must be a ghost town by now.

All three Yandex AI supercomputers are reportedly offline: Galushkin in Vladimir, Chervonenkis and Lyapunov in Sasovo, whose data center shut down after the Oct 8 strike. Yandex Cloud outages also threaten thousands of Russian firms relying on it for websites, databases and payments 👏

Imagine having the mega brain to want to stay outside of the EU after the last 10 years.

When I say the politics will become increasingly obvious... I mean look at this. If you want to unite the left/centre and split the Tories, without a big spending committment there's no better option.

On the substack this week.... I looked at the route back into the EU. It's going to become increasingly obvious that the politics works for a manifesto pledge. What are the barriers? What would a negotiation look like? How might another referendum play out? samf.substack.com/p/the-route-...

You know those ‘spot the difference’ puzzles? I’m thinking of launching a ‘spot every racism in this political cartoon’ alternative….

He's a political opportunist with flexible ideology. Like Liz Truss, he started with the lib Dems then adjusted his views to look for whatever gap in the political market he could find. The Greens were vulnerable to entryist takeover, so he opened the door.

I think we've solved the definition of "English". You're English if you can do a terrorist action and it doesn't count.

It's strange how the Greens have ballsed up their supposed breakthrough so thoroughly. Not only is it idiotic, it's bad politics. Particularly as Corbyn provided them with a map of where this all leads.

Ben Rometsch reposted

The "zionism is racism" motion that has just passed on the Green Party's conference floor is truly gross, and deeply racist. The party's MPs deserve some credit for opposing it, though they should've done so more stridently and sooner. This is now a millstone around the party's necks. Deservedly.

the story about the ULEZ bomber, a white bloke in his 60s, still isn’t on the front page of the BBC News when it feels like quite a big story about online radicalisation & violence
