Especially ridiculous because the claim is based on the 2-hour extension of voting which both Lula and Bolsonaro asked for.
After a stunning election victory for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brazil, U.S. right-wingers are falling back on an old favorite: baseless claims that the contest was rigged. www.ms.now/news/flavio-...

It's wrong in a more basic way: if you're encountering "so many" Americans who have a strong interest in the Brazilian election, it's a reminder your personal social media feed is a highly unrepresentative niche of people with at least a 95th percentile level of interest in politics generally.
I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

The lesson from Brazil is that democracy cannot be taken for granted. Defeating authoritarianism at the ballot box is only part of the struggle. Defending democratic institutions, protecting civil rights and demanding accountability require strong, sustained, principled public participation.
Lula wins Brazil election! Stops Latin America right wing wave!

A friendly reminder to celebrate the wins when you can. 👏
Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

The Democrats’ focus on affordability seems to be a winning strategy. But we mustn’t lose sight of the moral squalor at the core of the Trump regime and the necessity of ending it. My latest for The Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2026/oct/23/trump-moral-squalor

America - needs to correct what it heaped on world - in November, 2024 let us correct on November 03, 2026! If Brazil can do it - let us copy them! “The damage President Trump has inflicted on the United States and the world is so enormous and wide-ranging that it is hard to grasp,” Thomas Edsall
