Federal funding for roads and bridges goes disproportionately to places with: —More highways —More driving —More crashes —More white people That means there's a lot more per-capita money going to metropolitan areas in the "interior"—not on the coasts.

I'm going to make Greek-inspired chickpea soup and need ingredients. I'm also the daytime caregiver for our daughter. So how will I run this errand? By cargo bike, of course! First I arrive with everything I need. The stroller (on front), baby, and our grocery bag are all in the @bunchbike.com.

Reminds me of the time they interviewed the designer of the 2020 GMC Sierra and he said he wanted the interior to look like you were looking into the barrel of a gun and I feel like that should have been the end of designing pickup trucks

Build solid traffic calming devices BECAUSE drunk drivers will hit them... instead of hitting people.

I wrote this Vox article explaining why state roads are such intractable obstacles for urban street safety. TL;DR: State DOTs refuse to fix urban roads, and also won't transfer control. IMO Congress should create a generous matching grant program to entice state DOTs and local gov's to make a deal.

Summer 1987: New York City mayor Ed Koch announces a bicycle ban in midtown. Slow-ride protests led by bike messengers fought the ban, & city residents sided with the cyclists. The ban was lifted before it ever went into effect. 📷Carl Hultberg

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you really should watch and share this excellent news story. Ford LIES that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data. Remember and share this as Ford tears out Toronto bike-lanes.

toronto.citynews.caAnnex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanesStores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes removed.

"SafeWalkr has features that other mapping programs don’t have, the students said. Their program tells users which streets have sidewalks, for instance, and it recommends which side of the road to walk on." Their principal "considers the practice [of walking to school] to be a 'lost art'"

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Virginia high school students wanted to help their peers identify speedy and safe walking routes to school. They developed SafeWalkr, which combines data from Google Maps and street databases to map crosswalks, traffic and sidewalk coverage.

Keeping bike lanes clean keeps them safe. Debris from cars and landscaping quickly accumulates, creating hazards for riders. If your city isn't sweeping protected lanes as part of standard street maintenance, it is time to demand it.

Update on S Henderson St protected bike lanes in South Seattle: I checked them out this morning, & the Toronto style concrete mini jersey barriers & concrete curbs all appear to be complete. The bicycle signals are installed & operating but covered up. I think we’re close to them officially opening!

"Bike lanes are always empty!" Yeah, because bikes move through them quickly as opposed to getting stuck in gridlock like cars do. Well functioning infrastructure, should be empty MOST OF THE TIME. When it's not, it's a problem.

I advocate for urban design that induces more walking, biking, and public transit use, not because I expect everyone to give up their cars, but because I feel that everyone deserves options in mobility, not just one behind a paywall costing someone thousands annually to operate.
