What gets me here is that this is well trod ground in the infosec community. We've been talking about CVD for decades! Wade Baker has one of my favorite takes on this: archive.is/C8ojW

Vulgar Rawlsianism? Oh you mean Marxism.
becoming a vulgar rawlsian. the veil of ignorance isn't perfect, but 'is this how you would design things if *you* thought you might end up here?' is a test that way too many people fail. on everything from criminal justice to public transit, across the ideological spectrum.
I think an alternate, equally slimy but less concerning to privacy scenario, is that OpenAI got wind of the proof and the approach and threw infinite tokens at Astra or other internal model asking it to solve it first.
Dancing very very VERY close to saying “OpenAI stole our almost-complete proof of Navier-Stokes from internal access to our ChatGPT sessions because they were desperate to scoop Anthropic” which is absolutely 100% a believable thing OpenAI would do right now cims.nyu.edu/~tristanb/st...

These ratio outcome variables are a plague in the sciences. If your analysis treats 1/2 and 10/20 as the same evidence, then you have discarded uncertainty in the outcome. Model what you measure, not what you construct. Use the denominator as an exposure instead.
The study is based on the CD index, a citation-based measure of how much the successors of a work still rely on its predecessors, running from -1 (consolidating) to +1 (disruptive). Key detail: a paper with zero references automatically gets CD = +1 as soon as it is cited once.

I clearly do not post enough. I also reject the label that indicates I build anything with Crypto. I do not fuck with that.
I made a map of 3.4 million Bluesky users - see if you can find yourself! bluesky-map.theo.io I've seen some similar projects, but IMO this seems to better capture some of the fine-grained detail

Right, a single video of a single protester frustratedly kicking an inanimate object was sufficient to muddy the narrative some. Imagine what would happen if protesters adopted violence more broadly? Would it benefit us? It’s the incredible restraint of our heroic observers that helps us win.
When the video came up of AP kicking the headlight Republicans leapt on it because they knew that it would mobilize some of their base to see this as civil unrest. There is a reason they made sure everyone's grandparents thinks Portland is a war zone.

Like a full half of MN households just have this shit on hand. Probably 90% of households with kids who do winter sports. The other 10% just didn't get to Costco this weekend
I mostly just stay off Twitter altogether but after double checking that the Walter Hudson post was still up I ran across this and just had to share so the Romancelandians who bought hand warmers could hear about the PROFESSIONAL GRADE LOGISTICS.

Here’s a really tense ICE situation in front of my home. One car looped a block 25 times until two reinforcement cars showed up and led me home. Was pretty scary because I was solo - BUT I knew I had backup from thousands of courageous neighbors and observers. Strength in numbers.
