Moving from SKIE to Swift export in a Kotlin Multiplatform project johnoreilly.dev/posts/people... Swift export is still in alpha and continues to evolve so some aspects of this might change....but cool to see progress and looks like Kotlin 2.5.0 will be big release for the technology!

johnoreilly.devMoving from SKIE to Swift export in a Kotlin Multiplatform projectThe SwiftUI client in PeopleInSpace has, up to now, used the shared Kotlin code through the standard Objective-C based framework, along with SKIE to make that code nicer to use from Swift (for things ...

Those AI companies want to be seen as some kind of Prometheus stealing a divine power to give it to humanity, while in reality they are just arsonists. It's past time to stop spreading their BS stories and making them accountable for their crimes.

Imagine if the AI opponents in a video game were repeatedly murdering you without giving you a chance to win and the game developers would make a tragic announcement that their AI went rogue and therefore the development of the game must slow down. #OpenAI #Anthropic

Jake Wharton refuses to code with AI. When he left Cash App, he published nine requirements for his next job. Number one was: No AI. Our full conversation with the legendary Android developer is out now: layoffs, AI, Google and Kotlin in 2026.

I want a SMALLER phone with a THICKER case and MORE headphone jacks and I'm NOT kidding

I migrated the FOSDEM Companion Android app dependency injection from Dagger Hilt to Metro. Build times are faster as expected and the APK file is also 7KB smaller which is a nice bonus.

I was afraid I would miss Hilt-specific magical code generation features but I was able to create simple abstractions providing a very close experience. This experiment gave me enough material for a talk or a long blog post so expect to see more about it later. #Metro #Kotlin #KotlinMultiplatform

Compression and LLMs are trying to solve the exact same problem: predicting what comes next. @anniesexton.com's interactive essay walks us through the basics of compression to reveal its surprising overlap with every language model you've ever used.

1/ Java serialization sucks. That's why there are so many alternatives. There's a new kid on the block who claims to be much faster than anybody else. I was curious, so I put together a comparison of the top 5 Java serialization frameworks.

A lot of things changed since #Kotlin 1.1, for example starting with Kotlin 1.5 the compiler is optimizing for loops of any combination of functions creating an integer progression. Check out the very unreasonable example near the end of this revised post: dev.to/cbeyls/explo...

Building your own "Steam Machine" is now trendy. By chance I did this exactly one year ago when the Steam Machine was not announced yet and the prices of SSDs and RAM were still normal. My machine cost me the same price as the base model from Valve, with more power and double the memory.

I did my best to make it as compact and quiet as possible. I used a Sugo SG13 case with a SFX-L power supply, Noctua CPU and case fans, an underclocked AMD 7500F CPU and an underclocked AMD 9060 XT GPU. It has 2GB SSD, 32GB RAM and 16GB video memory.

The underclocking is the most interesting aspect, as both the CPU and GPU provide better performance per watt at lower power levels than their stock settings. This also allows to keep the temperatures under control with the fans running at low speed.

Oh my God, this is not a drill - LinkedIn has added 'seems like AI slop' as an option on posts Genuinely thought it was a joke until I clicked on a few posts

The YouTube Android app is so broken now that when you switch your phone theme between light and dark the text of the app doesn't change color and becomes illegible. 🤦‍♂️ I'm seriously wondering if there is any human left working on this app.
