The #HomeEnergyChoiceAct just passed in California! It generates new home electrification incentives while reducing utility bills by avoiding unnecessary & unwanted gas line replacements, with no mandates or safety compromises. Thank you @asmmarcberman.bsky.social! earthjustice.org/press/2026/c...

No fed court since has ruled the same way as the Ninth Circuit, and now the Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled essentially the opposite. The Ninth Circuit decision is only effective in those states. If you're east of the Rockies, your town might be able to go all electric for new buildings.

i am very certain that ditching gas is why my oldest didn't develop asthma after being pretty clearly pre-asthmatic

Sammy Roth@sammyroth.bsky.social

Insane new research. Scientists gave asthma patients free electric stoves to replace their gas stoves, then checked to see if symptoms improved. Not only did symptoms improve, ditching gas was *better than medicine.* Details in today's newsletter: www.climatecoloredgoggles.com/p/electric-s...

We know how to phase down fossil fuels, but the government, and to a lesser extent the people, don’t want to do that at the pace the situation warrants.

I've seen enough! In City Hall, I'm working on transit improvements and decarbonization buildings right now. We know that gas in buildings and oil from cars and trucks are the two biggest sources of carbon pollution. Transit and electrification of buildings are our way out.

I propose Summer Gas Savings Time. There's simply no need to distribute natural gas during the summer months.

Discuss: Residential customers should be charged a flat fee for electrical service based upon their climate zone and the square footage of their house. Edge cases can be handled with a cap and additional charges, but the base fee should be set to cover the usage of most fully-electric houses.

I think I might have inspired this bill. About five years ago PG&E wanted to replace the gas line to my house, and I said why don't you give me that money instead, and I'll go all electric? To my shock they said okay, how about $20k? ...

Good news: NYS law ending gas & oil in new buildings again upheld, by the 2nd federal circuit. Hochul had extrajudicially "delayed" the law until this decision came down. Now, hopefully she doesn't come up with another sleazy move to serve the oil & gas interests at our expense.

If I had a big pile of money for climate stuff, I'd start a nonprofit heat pump installation firm in a dense city. Integrate as much of the supply chain as possible and show what the true deployment cost is without all the profit siphons along the chain from manufacturers, distributers, installers.

Heat pumps are air conditioners. And air conditioners are (unidirectional) heat pumps. Opposing access to AC for ostensibly "climate" reasons is shortsighted, as they are a key adaptation technology to prevent suffering even while we continue to work to reduce emissions.
