Oh my goodness. Why have I never had diced apple in an omelette before? Apple, crispy ham bits, sharp cheddar, pinch of thyme, black pepper. Cinnamon raisin toast. The whole savoury / sweet / spicy / crispy / chewy thing. #BreakfastForDinner

Day-after-huge-event creakiness (dehydration, that's on me), social battery flashing PLUG IN NOW TO AVOID LOSING DATA, my brain already fixating on Monday stuff - It was a marvelous event and we're all feeling triumphant, but OOF I am glad I'll have some proper non-event weekends for a while.

So deeply focused on a high-octane campus event today that I completely forgot it's still BC Election Day! GO VOTE. (Yes, I voted in advance because I knew this would happen.)

I strongly believe humans have the right to not see ads. This shouldn't even be a right we pay more for, it should be the default. We should have the right to not experience propaganda designed to influence our psychology, decision making, and wallets 24/7.

Please note: I am not asking for advice and don't want you to give it in this post. It is EXTREMELY FUCKED that everything you pay thousands of dollars for spends time trying to get you to upgrade and there is no way to stop it.

It really hits home, some days, that I'm surrounded by remarkable people who each bring so much to their work. And I think they think of themselves as just-getting-on-with-things. Which may be true, but they're still remarkable people getting-on-with-things and making them remarkable in the world.

What OP said! 🖤🩶🤍💜🏳️‍🌈☕️

It's National Coming Out Day. It's also one hell of a time for all of us. I've struggled with what message I wanted to send today. So I'm just going with the truth: I'm glad you're here with us. 🖤🩶🤍💜

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260: Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.

Sad to hear of the passing of NASA legend Margaret Hamilton - year after year we had hoped that she would write a memoir talking about those pioneering days of space programming, and now she's gone, but her accomplishments will always be with us. www.cnn.com/2026/10/07/s...

Three packed science outreach & recruitment events over three weekends, simultaneous to my first three weeks in an important new science outreach weekday job... I am still stunned this is all happening. Even if it's just for a while. And the support from so many is a whole dang power grid.

Reposting because all of my jobs have always come from someone in my network referring me or knowing someone who needs a science communicator 🤞

Related, but I'm back on the job market for full time positions I prefer remote roles, but an amazing opportunity (in a trans-safe locale) would make me consider relocation If you spot any senior science communication roles or adjacent, please let me know!

A fantastic start to the SFU Centre for Forensic Research outreach program's school year. Freddie and I are very tired, and I, at least, am quite hoarse. Thanks to Wes Wong for organizing & Britannia Comm Ctr for hosting another year of the Science and Maker Jamboree!

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

It's always a great sign when an interview with a scientist starts like this: Me: Hi there, thanks for talking to me. I'd like to ask you some questions about [thing]. Scientist: OH MY GOODNESS I LOVE [thing]!!! I could talk about [thing] for hours!!!!!
