I will second this and add LIBRARIES! libriaries are calm and quiet and let you breath
I know I am about as biased as possible on this but go to an indie bookstore. An indie bookstore's vibes are the opposite of...all of this. You'll be surrounded by memories, stories, brave visions of the future that don't ignore our barbarous present. Your brain can be quiet AND full. Seriously.
We can't put this book down! Spanning continents and exploring themes of family, education, and the Korean immigrant experience, @minjinlee.bsky.social 's new novel, American Hagwon, is a triumph. Can't get enough like us? Hannah Sanghee Park's review is up and free to read this week! tr.ee/dsx8uk

From the archive, my thoughts on BROTHER OF THE MORE FAMOUS JACK by Barbara Trapido, just reissued by @nyrb-imprints.bsky.social. A superb coming-of-age novel about love, heartache, disillusionment & growing up. It's moving, charming, funny & unsentimental! jacquiwine.wordpress.com/2025/07/01/b...

Working on this reported essay, just published, increasingly took over my life for the last two months. PEN America did a terrible disservice with its sloppy reporting about American Jews and Israelis in publishing in July. Josh Lambert and I tried to do better. jewishcurrents.org/what-pen-ame...
