In the last year, No More Robots has funded + is currently funding a dozen games, and has paid numerous devs to make prototypes happen for free But obviously, getting press is absolutely impossible for us, because only doom and gloom gets clicks

I love how TGAs are just not serious awards in any sense, yet people think this, while this is also how actual proper award shows also work. We are not a serious people.

A fine example of why not to worry about AI (the tech) supplanting your job. The hard part is not figuring out *how* to do something, it's figuring out *what* to do. Nobody's switching to the Epic Store for a few seconds faster start time. Because no one's even exiting Steam to begin with 😆🤡

Just to put a little nuance on everyone's takes, Nintendo and Sony have been publicly traded for decades.

Jan Willem Nijman@jwaaaap.com

if you’re a games company that wants to survive it has been proven over and over again you need to do whatever it takes to stay away from being publicly traded. you’ll be turned into wood chips the moment it’s convenient.

it's always "fun" to look into the details on these sorts of situations: * This guy cofounded this company out of school and has never had a boss in his entire life. * Notes that he's laid off 20% of the studio every year for the past 6 years * "We want to lean more and more into the gig economy"

If anyone has contacts at Valve who can help expedite this, we certainly wouldn't say no to the help. In the meantime, I'll be here swimming in cortisol.

Dave Gilbert@wadjeteyegames.com

We are aware that Steam has classified Nighthawks as an adult game and has excluded it from searches (and delisted it entirely in certain countries). We are working on it. Valve is under the impression that this game is way sexier than it actually is.

Looking for someone to help with a Nidhogg console update. Anyone out there like using Game Maker and console networking?

The other thing is it's outrageous how much it costs to use software/services that are US-based (literally or spiritually). For a small team of, say, 7 game developers who need/must use the lowest paid tier for these services, annual rate can *easily* run to nearly $33,000 CAD/year. That's a lot!

Nels Anderson@nelsanderson.zone

If you too would like to stop using increasingly shitty software made by bad people who make the world worse, I wrote a guide for how to lessen/end your small team's dependence on US-based tech services: nelsanderson.zone/a-guide-to-d...

We're extremely excited to share that Never Alone 2 has been selected to appear in the MIX Fall Showcase next Friday, September 4th in Seattle. We are bringing the very first demo of the game and are looking forward to meeting some of you there! https://bit.ly/3SHtxmz

It kind of boggles my mind we haven't seen a AAA game do Bonnie and Clyde... Back after the launch of GTA 3, I was at Radical and we were working on an original PS2 game based on that. When we got a publisher, they applied a license and it became Scarface: The World is Yours. 25 years later...

And it was co-op... The first open world co-op game wasn't till... 2007? Crackdown? It's not even that creative an idea and the game industry can still manage to miss it for decades 😆

A world of fair wages IS possible. Never let anyone tell you otherwise! Unionize!

Robert Reich@rbreich.bsky.social

Look at this graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. This is why we must build back union power.

Quark's Bar, Hard Rock Hotel, Las Vegas. We were served by a Klingon and a Ferengi, the Klingon made fun of me for not eating meat, and we shared a "Warp Core Breach", a 64 oz bowl of some sort of rum punch with dried ice in the middle.

fwiw there is an argument I would have accepted here which is that the very modest overall power draw is *highly* localized and can be a huge burden in a *very small area* as a percentage; of course you can fix locally pretty easy with governance or whatever if you have good governance (we don't)

This is beyond disgusting… and why we need much stronger ethics to protect kids on social media platforms / online games. And accountability of course. Unbelievable and sickening.
