“The problem isn’t that he’s wrong” The problem is that critical thinking capacity is critically low among a populace of critical mass, that enables him to continue to spew nonsense.

elia ayoub@ayoub.bsky.social

I’m seeing people reacting by pointing out that he’s obviously wrong. I appreciate that, but it’s also a pointless exercise. The problem isn’t that he’s wrong. The problem is that this is normal in American politics — and it’s been normal for a while.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

AFP finds out that a woman is not concerned with proving that she is old. 😱

AFP News Agency@en.afp.com

🇦🇱 Still smiling at 117, Albanian may be world's oldest woman At 117, Qamile Marra is not concerned with proving she may be the world's oldest woman, but official documents suggest she is two days older than Ethel Caterham, recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's oldest living woman.

We already have flying cars. They're called helicopters. They're really expensive and there are good reasons you have to have a pilot license and work with air traffic control to fly them. Putting jets on a sedan is not going to result in a better vehicle or transportation experience in any way.

He means to say - “We shouldn’t pause money flowing to our pockets”

Looks like they removed all the ads from the start menu. 😂

Microsoft says Windows 11 is now "more responsive" and runs better on 8GB of RAM. A lot of the speed improvements are thanks to smarter ways to manage memory and PC resources. Details 👇 www.theverge.com/news/1011891...

This is exactly the kind of non-deterministic future that we need NOT accept. AI should not dictate how we interact. Make knowledge transfer great again! 🙂

i've been saying "knowledge transfer is dead, people don't ask their coworkers questions anymore" for a while now, but honestly it's kinda funny that we're setting out to build a god and ended up with a tower of babel

I think Brexit is an extreme case of “familiarity breeds contempt”. The UK is so far off track that they don’t even realize how disingenuous this whole thing is for them.

John Cotter@drjohncotter.bsky.social

One of the most disappointing aspects of Brexit is that even after an entire decade of discourse about the EU and the UK’s position in it or outside it, there remains very little understanding of the EU.

Anytime you hear someone say "It's hard for me/them to do [x]". Read a book/vote/ride transit/cook a meal whatever… And your first thought is "Well, it's easy for *me* to do it." Keep your mouth shut until you have a second thought.

Trumpistan. That’s what I’ll call the US from now on!

Prem Sikka@premnsikka.bsky.social

Firing squad execution to be livestreamed, Pentagon says. Lost for words at the insanity in Trumpistan, a truly sick dictatorship. Like medieval times, executions offered as a public spectacle in a country that claims to be Christian. What next?

This is so bad and wrong for so many reasons! No matter your views on death penalty, the perversity of turning it into a PR campaign is completely devoid of humanity. This enables radicalizing the extremists.

“The hard problem in AI is where you hide the human.” “Mythos is not magic. It’s a heavily subsidised vulnerability scanner that runs on humans and exists to sell you Claude. It’s not nothing — but it’s not much.”

“Mythos: not the magical AI hacking tool after all – Pivot to AI” https://pivot-to-ai.com/2026/10/07/mythos-not-the-magical-ai-hacking-tool-after-all/

This is so true. Whoever has spent even a little time in the terribly broken world of B2B enterprise software knows why companies would happily stick with legacy software that runs on a Windows XP with Internet Explorer 6 if they could.

Regime Accountant, CPA ☠️🎢@regimecpa.bsky.social

Most enterprises and most people hate making software, hell they hate even configuring open source software that already exists, so I’m a bit skeptical that every company is going to start rolling their own.

Ok, I am exaggerating, but most platform upgrades are forced on companies because it becomes expensive to maintain legacy systems. Every Windows update is dreaded, pushed as far into the future as possible, until Microsoft can no longer justify making money on extended support agreements. Oof!

Because it is much cheaper to make software, I could see a future where there will be more, less profitable SaaS companies and they’re going to compete on the Service part of their name now that the Software part is a commodity.

University fees scam. Run by the US administration.

DR. NO was released 64 years ago today. The first Hollywood entry in the iconic James Bond series, and still among the most popular 007 films, the story of how it was made will leave you shaken and stirred…. 1/52

What is this grave danger that communities in the US seems to be watching out for that other countries don’t experience? Seems like it is competing with China in cameras per sq ft.

USPS says the cameras, put on USPS truck dashboards, will scan roads, signs, and more. www.404media.co/usps-to-put-...

Whoa! This is true.

All the emotional labor gets done by the people with the most eq trying to play rescuer. Even when they are core operational functions that need to get built out. And when women in the system aren’t the ones with the most eq or refuse unpaid labor, they are considered abusive.

Strong disagree. The likely destabilization of the economy and the potential job losses caused by AI in my opinion are most likely to result in a further rise of the far right, lack of focus on climate change, and a general crash in core public services for the working classes.

Erika Hall@erikahall.bsky.social

The "AI is coming for jobs" narrative contributes to a scarcity mindset that destroys worker solidarity. I think we can look at anti-trust, tax policy, regulation, consumer protection, labor rights, and rights to housing, healthcare, childcare, and transportation without mentioning "AI" at all.

5. The best way of pushing a book to a kid is to say it isn't suitable. "You won't understand it." "It's rude." "It's far too challenging for someone your age." Then, just leave the book around somewhere they can reach it.

I figured out that a) I am often not the smartest guy in the room about the particular thing everyone in the room cares about right now; b) no one in the room will care about <some technical problem> 10 years from now, and for sure I will not; and c) people less smart have solved < problem> before.

The Facial Expressions of Tethys by artist Julius von Bismarck. A suspended high-sea buoy that moves in real time. Sensors on a twin buoy out in the Atlantic Ocean send live satellite data to motors inside the museum. This makes the indoor buoy copy the exact, real-time movements of the ocean waves.
