AOC: "As AI begins to encroach in our society, their goal is to take your cognition away from you. AI's goal is to take your thoughts away from you, your ability to think away from you, so that you become dependent on a machine ... reading books is active resistance"

The wait is over… Anti-Fascist Economics is out now! 🌹🌾 Writing a book is a very lonely journey, and yet no one can do it alone. I’m so, so grateful to my family and friends who have had my back throughout this process and for all the guidance from my editors across three countries and my agency.

On the list

Hard to devise a better metaphor for the past decade and a half of Premier League football than Man City winning while playing with an extra man.

As disappointed as I am, this is probably the perfect result to sum up the sorry state of the Premier League as it stands. We’re watching a sham. The cheats still prosper.

Another great thread by @doctorow.pluralistic.net. Ford is fascinating. You can see why Chaplin lampooned him in 'Modern Times'. We show a video in class of workers being sacked at the old Ford Factory for smiling ☺ & when they went to the loo, the contents of the toilet would be checked! 💩 #EconSky

Henry Ford thought that he was so rich that he could build Brazilian worker housing whose windows faced the same direction as the worker housing he'd built in Dearborn, Michigan.

There’s a lot of grumbling in London about new flats being sold to Chinese investors. But you never hear from the Chinese buyers. I asked Helen Gao to travel around Beijing property fairs and learn how you sell life in Woolwich to the Chinese elites. www.londoncentric.media/p/london-pro...

Joan Robinson knew that economics isn't a neutral science—it’s all about power. We don't need more unthinking economists parroting econ class teachings. We need rethinkers ready to push for an economy that serves people and planet. If you agree, join the movement. ✊

Microsoft cut its tax bill by roughly 82%, from $14.1B to $2.5B, even as its income soared. Across the corporate sector, tax payments are down 25% ($96B).

Such a great point, Ebacc was a terrible idea, and So damaging to young people

Sophie Heawood@heawood.bsky.social

In all the conversations about how to get kids back into school there is not enough focus on the syllabus itself. Why are GCSE kids, for example, still widely compelled to do all three sciences but not allowed all three Art, Music, Drama, given these industries are just as lucrative for our economy?
