I'm sad and angry about what's happened over there, but I love the positive and pro-social vibe here at Bluesky. I think it is past time for me to introduce myself properly. *** In 2009, I told my husband that I was pregnant with our third child. “Wow,” he said. “We’re going to need a bigger car.”

I wish I could explain to BC voters that everything that annoys them about the NDP right now is due to the party’s rightward drift to capture conservative support, and that literally every one of those things is going to get far worse under the conservatives because you voted for “change.”

On Saturday, we vote again! Then on Sunday, we picnic. Come for the grilled cheese and hot drinks, stay for the community building - with a side of envisioning the change we want to see in Oak Bay as the election dust settles! #yyj #bcpoli

With under 48 hours to go, we figured it's time for a news roundup for anyone still deciding who to vote for in Oak Bay's municipal election. 🧵 #yyj #yyjpoli #bcpoli

WATCH: Seriously, if you’re following ANY bike-lane debate, you really should watch and share this excellent news story. Ford LIES that bike-lanes are bad for small business, and THE ACTUAL BUSINESS ASSOCIATION obliterates him with data. Remember and share this as Ford tears out Toronto bike-lanes.

toronto.citynews.caAnnex businesses tell Ford to back off Bloor bike lanesStores in the Annex say the Bloor bike lanes have been a big boost to business. As Michelle Mackey reports, the neighborhood's BIA wants the province to back off its new bill that could see the lanes removed.

The Conservatives have bought ads to tell us Lorne Doerkson has "been here the whole time." Good for him. Too bad he wasn't here for working people. #BCPoli #BCLab #BCElxn

Oak Bay, please please do not elect this AI bro as a school trustee. All of his answers talk about data rather than human beings, and he clearly couldn’t care less about climate change.

So my local fire fighters have a hard right culture warrior type as their spokesperson, and they've decided to violate a bunch of basic public servant rules and spread lies so bad the fire chief is getting involved, all to support a slate of right wing candidates. www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/va...

Vote for the candidates who have earned your vote - even if that's only a couple of candidates. Indeed, voting for candidates you do not support may decrease the chances of those you *do* support getting elected. Still doing your research? Check out oakbayforall.ca/elections #yyjpoli #bcpoli

Emmett, I genuinely think that if you spent a week cycling to and from work, you’d understand how terrifying it can be to ride when people are casually threatening you with their vehicles. It happens on nearly every ride despite being overly cautious & following all rules, as Rob said.

OMG this Bruce McGuigan is a ridiculous clown. Boring and competent is much better than a Monty Python Mayor. Clover Point is a TEMPORARY LOW-COST, 'Tactical Urbanism' intervention. Imagine what city staff would be dealing with if this guy was elected Mayor of Victoria 🧵 #yyj

Planning to head down to ReconciliACTION Oak Bay's all candidate forum tonight. Not much candidate activity so far on Bluesky (but then 1 council candidate doesn't even have a website 🤷🏼‍♀️) - but we'll see if we can share out some key pieces for folks who couldn't make it! #yyjpoli #OakBayBC #bcpoli

The myth Alberta 'subsidizes' the rest of Canada is the most powerful meme in the separatist armoury. But it's utterly false. I show that most Albertans get more back from federal programs than they personally pay in federal taxes, for @thetyee.ca: thetyee.ca/Opinion/2026... #abpoli /2

Brad Bradford says that 50% of roadway cannot be allocated to 1% of users. Good thing it isn't. Only about 1% of all of Toronto's road space is allocated to bike lanes. I showed my work, and used Danforth (the lanes he fought so hard to get added) as an example.

I’m going to be canvassing around Carnarvon Park this week, a significant public space that needs to be renovated But after years of discussion and with the design almost finalized, last week Council came very close to sending the project back to the drawing board. Let me tell you about it …

I always try to explain to my 9-year old what the various candidates for election stand for. "We won't be able to ride to the Kingsway anymore" makes summarizing Bradford's platform pretty easy.

Mayoral candidate Brad Bradford makes it official: he’d remove the Bloor West bike lanes if he wins in October.

My hot take on drivers encountering any vulnerable road user is that even if cyclists/ pedestrians etc aren’t following the law they still don’t deserve to be hit/injured/killed or honked at and actually should be yielded to in most situations. This is unpopular opinion in our society sadly.

A particularly infuriating aspect of this A.I. bullshit is that nobody seems to remember that we all got along just fine without it for centuries. How are we all suddenly incapable of reading and understanding written words? Of creating art? Of telling stories? It’s madness.

Full-sized SUVs are pedestrian killers. New research finds that they're more than twice as likely to kill or seriously injure a pedestrian than other cars. (Notably, vehicle height—not weight—was the biggest risk factor.) doi.org/10.1016/j.js...
