Neighbour tried to early vote and found out she is not on either roll, despite living in same place for at least ten years. Did not get an easy vote card. What are their options?

I’m smiling because students took to the streets for months & forced out a pro Putin RW dictator. And now the Student Win group along with other progressive parties will form a new govt in Serbia. & please don’t forget they are still protesting daily in Albania and Georgia! Power to the People!

Choose wisely, Whangārei. -Dr Gary "The firm gave to the party. The party's fundraiser worked for the firm. The firm's former chief executive is now the party's candidate. Not one step in that sequence is against the law." -Grant McLachlan (Link in comments.) #whangarei

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

no taxes? I’d rather NZ political parties dealt with the fact we have 1) NO rules around lobbying 2) NO disclosure of targeted digital campaigns 3) NO limits on party donations

Worth remembering that if it costs the government $4.5b to reverse the gender pay tax, then it costs the women affected $4.5b to leave it in place.

Dirty Tricks. Dirty Works. It reminds me of Metiria 💔. And since then, to name a few, Golriz, Tory Whanau, Maiki, & lets not forget Jacinda. & now the dirty tricks brigade have set their sights on Tamatha & Tania Waikato.Time to shine a light on these sleazy tactics & expose their dirty work

“We’re not a poor country, we make poor decisions” - Craig Renney 101% correct.

Today it is 186 years since Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei tupuna Apikai Te Kawau gifted 3,000 acres to Governor Hobson for the establishment of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland.

Unfortunately we see our politicians captured by the narrative that all migration is bad. But what is the alternative if you're hoping to have an economy that can build roads, schools and hospitals and survive major traumas like earthquakes and cyclones? AI is not going to build those bridges.

For those in the back: The total amount the New Zealand government has spent on all historical Waitangi Tribunal settlements over the last 30+ years is less than the cost of a single year of the 2024 tax cuts for Landlords.

Waitara Foodbank posting thanks to Knox Church in Waitara, who supply them with ready meals to freeze - 300 of them today. All fresh ingredients cooked from scratch, all voluntary. This is Christian charity above reproach.

Great summary. And it should be the lede in every report on this so-called deal.

It’s not “an oil deal with Venezuela.” It’s Trump kidnapping an autocrat, refusing to hold elections, then leaving the remainder of the regime in place but only if they allow him to pillage their natural resources, which they are doing to remain in power oppressing the people.

Also could we do this here on Aotearoa?

Overnight Canadians have become ‘Buy Local’ consumers on a massive scale. Social media promotions, lists, spreadsheets detailing Canadian products everything from house paint to mascara. Small businesses who relied on US sales are quickly finding Canadians rallying to fill that gap. Love it.

What we DO want is simple: 🟢 Hospitals staffed properly 🟢 Homes built for people, not speculators 🟢 Kids fed at school 🟢 Medicine affordable. 🟢 Water clean 🟢 Energy renewable and publicly owned 🟢 Work that pays enough to live 🟢 Tax that's fair 🟢 Public money for public good. 8/9

Buy Canada: I found only US nectarines in Save on Foods in Victoria, at the height of the Okanagan Valley fruit season! Best fruit on the continent. Do better @saveonfoods, we’re not buying your American inferior fruit.

“Carney’s official statement deserves to be read in full, slowly, with a beer, because underneath the diplomatic wallpaper it’s the most quietly savage document a G7 leader’s put out in years. It reads like a bank manager foreclosing on a bloke’s entire self-image & the bank manager is enjoying it.”

This post is a joy & I want to add some 💗 for Canada’s amazing indigenous culture .. the art, clothing, food, carving, jewellry, music & film. Here’s one of my faves, Kali Spitzer’s stunning photography. And who can explain how it feels to land @ YVR & be welcomed by majestic indigenous expression?

Also - please join me if you will in flooding Bluesky with Canadian culture. Music, art, film, TV. Let’s show the vibrancy of this place I’m proud to call home.

I understand “ gettong the books back in shape” but the reasons for doing must be to be create funding for bold brilliant programs that secure our future, fix our social services & protect our planet. Without those commitments its all meaningless.
