Brazilians recommending not to amplify right-wing talking points by dunking and quoting, as a winning strategy
Next day, my tl is full of people dunking on rfk jr
I literally would not have seen the bigotry if it wasn't for y'all repeating it. That's exactly what the Brazilians were on about!
because it is relevant to my work, I have tried very hard to educate myself on how AI works, be fair and measured in how I evaluate it, and regularly test new tools to confirm or debunk my priors
and tbh AI haters are just nailing it with less work like 99% of the time. keep at it folks
Whenever they do a sympathy piece and go through one person's monthly expenses they always have something like "401k contributions" or "deposits to savings" in there.
I think the real finding from surveys like this is that a lot of self-pitying rich people don't know what "paycheck to paycheck" means. If you are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars annually on voluntary expenditures like prep school tuition, you don't count. finance.yahoo.com/economy/arti...
What a weird world we live in - Ukraine hits a data centre deep in Russia - Irish twitter users see racist posts about IPAS centres in Offaly fall off a cliff
And now the best part: Bot traffic from the #Yandex network has plunged to near zero following the strike on its Vladimir data center. Bot traffic includes automated requests from search crawlers, scrapers and other online services.
Twitter must be a ghost town by now.
Most of what gets to the top of the charts is mediocre in the same way that the top of the Nielsen ratings is CBS procedurals that your parents watch. You shouldn’t dismiss those things outright because sometimes something good gets through, but it’s largely mid because that’s what has mass appeal.
This is the type of AI disaster scenario that I ACTUALLY worry about.
(1) AI industry oversells the capabilities of its products to score fat government contracts.
(2) govt puts the AI in charge of critical shit.
(3) AI fucks up, because it has a nonzero error rate.
(4) shit, now we’re at war.
Had an Iranian tour guide last night and at dinner I tried to explain that the reason he isn't allowed into the US is just because the people in charge are incredibly petty and stupid.
she deleted this once she realized that based on the time difference she was implying that schoolchildren in Scotland knew about 9/11 before it happened
The idea that AI would generate revenue was based mostly on a thesis that SLOW LAZY EMPLOYEES were the bottleneck to productivity. Turns out a lot of companies just don't have the revenue potential they've been promising their shareholders.
AI does help some people do their jobs, but not always even faster, just with less of a scramble. And certainly not to a degree that justifies the environmental impact.
Favorite cover you saw live?
Top of mind for me is FIDLAR *opening* their show with a ribcage-rattling cover of Beastie Boys's "Sabotage." Talk about One Weird Trick to make a crowd high-energy from the jump
Recently: NIN covering "I'm Afraid of Americans"
It's still funny to me how mad people got about the Seinfeld finale reminding them that it's not ok for someone to be an asshole just because they're your friend.
