Just had meeting with kiddo's school. She has been fully supported, treated with full equality & dignity for years. All of that changes from September. Full segregation & humiliation across the board. The school staff cried in the meeting. This will absolutely lead to children's deaths 1/2

On the 5th August, the EHRC's Code of Practice becomes statutory guidance. It will make life even harder for many trans & non-binary people. It's unworkable & harmful. The Good Law Project is challenging & wants to hear from people affected by these exclusions. goodlawproject.org/discriminato...

This idea only sounds insane until you think about it for a second. You adjust your alarm clock, then you get used to it. The only part I wouldn't personally like is that the date would change at a different time. It's less fun staying up until 00:00 on NYE if that is in mod afternoon.

no one wants to consider my insane pitch which is to eliminate timezones across the planet so we’re all on the exact same time and force everyone to change their conception of what a day is

There's this as well. The segregation regime, if you recall.

When reality surpasses fiction! Top: fictional forecast for August 2050, broadcast by French TV in 2014 to warn about the consequences of global warming. Bottom: Real French forecast for yesterday, June 22, 2026.

Back in my early 20s I tried to write fiction. I wrote dozens of drafts, hundreds of pages of digital notes, even more scrawled on paper. Then I tried to write an RPG. More notes, more drafts. I'm on to game dev now. More notes, & now code. I have realised that maybe my hobby is just... Typing!?

For a while I was really trying to find the value in using ChatGPT/other models to learn things. I hoped that by doing most of the work myself and using the LLM as a fancy search engine I could actually learn to do things myself... But after months of frustration I've always come away worse off. 1/

attempt with ChatGPT's (inept, though confident) assistance. Despite the work I'm now doing being largely (though not completely) a replication of the code in the book, its significantly more satisfying, and I actually feel like I'm coming out the end of each stage knowing more than I did before. 3/

Fortunately, to the rescue comes... books! It turns out we didn't need to make computers talk to be able to get better at things. I've been working through an excellent book which is available free on the author's website, and it's lead me to create something far, far better than my first.. 2/

A federal judge just ordered the National Park Service to put back every sign, display, and exhibit pulled under Trump’s “restore truth” order. Judge Angel Kelly just told Trump: you don’t get to rewrite American history. You have 21 days. #USDemocracy #Pinks apple.news/AQDSDrhmzTrq...

A social media ban - like a drug ban - turns the focus to better enforcement of the ban, rather than any efforts to meaningfully improve the underlying issues at play.

Sam Freedman@samfr.bsky.social

One of the obvious problems with a under-16 social media ban is that it won't work. (60%+ of Australian under-16s are still using these platforms). But it will make people feel like something has been done so they won't tackle the content, which is the real issue.

All 3 LLMs I tried, when asked about Astrology, presented information about its influence on a person's personality with exactly the same confidence and apparent factuality as if I had asked them about mathematics.

What a bizarre time to be living in, where a Labour government is really doing quite a bit of good environmenally, nationalising the rail services etc... All the while stripping away my rights as a trans person and user of the internet.

Congratulations to @bphillipsonmp.bsky.social on somehow making Theresa May’s Conservative Party the most socially progressive government of the last decade, I suppose. Really impressive to be that fucking ghoulish a person.

The fact that this made it in is such a clear demonstration that the new code of practice was written specifically to target trans people... Oh, and just slipping in a hint at who might come next, hmm?

Ethel Weapon@lousadzak.bsky.social

I lied, because “it is a stereotype that gender critical people are nasty bastards” is actually written into this code and sorry you can’t legislate to make people like you

Thinking of everyone in the trans community in the UK today. Two days ago the UK government announced London to host IDAHOBIT forum 2027 including these nuggets: “London set to become the global stage for progress on LGBT+ rights” “government funding will advance international LGBT+ equality”

There is no way to see this other than as an attempt to entirely keep us from public life. Because what trans woman would use men's toilets? It's quite often the case that there is no third option, our choices will be either break the law or put ourselves at risk of sexual violence.

‘Trans women must be barred from female toilets, changing facilities and sports teams, new official guidance is to state’ www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/202...

The sheer irony of claiming to "protect" cis women from trans women - who are in general not a risk to them at all - by putting trans women at risk from men is just 👌👌👌👌👌

If you were in any doubt about whether you should get out and vote, but you don't want a Reform council... VOTE. Reform are in a clear lead among those certain to vote, they will be there.

What horrifies me most about this is that the UK government in 2029 may have only 25% of the vote. 25% of the vote can win a majority in FPTP. A reasonable system would produce a broad left coalition, there's a majority there. Instead we will get Reform. We NEED proportional representation.

I assume for the sake of argument that neither Plaid, the SNP, nor Lib Dems would join a Reform/Tory government... Though I can't say I would amazingly trust the LD on that point.

This is a news story that will not get the attention it deserves. Warfare continues to develop into new and ever more disturbing avenues. No matter how just the cause this should always alarm.

I suppose that one possible advantage is that if more militaries adopt these strategies fewer soldiers have to die. But that's just soldiers. It may reach a point where the *only* expected casualties of war are civilians. What a horrifying possibility.
