Amazing to see so many liberal us Americans going "well really Lula isn't perfect either"
And I need them to understand this is why they're in the situation they're in now
Latching onto the first 'well both sides are bad 😔' and leaving it at that. Amazing how this type of propaganda still works
Despite the significant investments ploughed into artificial intelligence it has provided “zero payoff” to corporate America outside of technology, according to Apollo's Chief Economist Torsten Slok. Read more: bloom.bg/3UO2c30

Probably would have been in the game development scene a lot sooner. Maybe would have even worked in the industry.
I used to say I wanted to be a "game tester" when I was like 10. Was told that doesn't exist and that games were just a hobby but should never be your job.
Maybe the #godot hivemind might have an idea for me?
I have a 2d atlas with dozens of individual sprites I want to use as decoration in a scene.
What's the easiest way to handle that? I thought about tilemaps, but that doesn't feel amazing and leaves me with not being able to place things offgrid
AI has lost the Mandate of Heaven I’m afraid. WSJ saying it’s a “when” the ai bubble bursts. SNL dabbing on their biggest names for being weird. FT says 50% of chips sold in 2026 and 2027 have nowhere to go. Hundreds of billions short on revenue for even 10% ROIC. A disaster.
It’s called “regulatory capture”
They want to be able to regulate low cost, open source, open weight models out of existence so that only their own are allowed on the market.
I hate gen AI, but even I know that this shit is heinous
Again, I must ask what they think the response from governments will be when given this information, because it will likely not be "wow we should let you do whatever you want"
I may be slow with prototyping, but the "gray box" prototype is slowly taking shape 😂

I swear godot UI is a bit like black magic
Anyway, I got a little turn order display mocked up! Even got some nice little animations up and running
#godot#gamedev#indiedev#solodev
And now I've got a little rudimentary victory screen built out!
Things are really starting to come together 😌
Even came up with a nice little spin on the sphere grid system for FFX for my leveling system, but I guess that's not shown here lol

I'm tired boss and this video sums it up pretty succinctly
I really wish I had the luxury to be able to just quit my job and give my indie game dev dreams a shot.
But bills gotta get paid
youtu.be/H0HwFqBG9KE?...
Like, I keep coming back to this article posted by @unseenjapan.com about AKFG's lead singer opening up a recording studio so that young musicians have a place to fail "safely".
I really wish those kinds of things existed for young folks and indies in any industry

Gotoh Masafumi of Asian Kung-Fu Generation put ¥75.6 million in crowdfunding and donations into turning a 130-year-old tea storehouse in Shizuoka into a recording studio. It's run by an NPO that rents to struggling artists at half the normal rates so bands can afford to fail.
Threatening we'll "get left behind" doesn't work when the destination is somewhere we don't want to go
Like brother if the place you're going is a hellscape where everything sucks, I insist on being left behind. My ideal outcome is being left behind. Sign me up for never following you anywhere

become an animist and never again worry about whether the machines are thinking. so are the trees? the machines can help us make better websites though

Math is hard. Menus are harder.
Got an actual menu built out and scrollable (sorta). Now to just make those commands actually do something lol
Bonus points if you get the spell names references 👀

And now we've got proper turn based combat ready to go!
Everything's sorta mocked up of course, so I've still got a ways to go, but it is what it is lol
(please ignore that the enemies aren't doing anything yet lol)

Tip for newer gamedevs;
Always put in the time to make it so that you can test a minimal version of a level in your game. Just an empty room and the thing you need to test.
I see so many devs running through half their level to test something every time!

And the best part of the "command menu" is it's just a custom container you can wrap around any control 😌
It is both side and viewport edge aware, based on a custom bounding box component as the target. Also space aware based on the container itself!
#godot#indiedev#gamedev#buildinpublic#crpg
I also just realized that this would be perfect for doing off-screen notifiers like I had in this little "tower defense" game I
made earlier this year

First up, a menu!
I love how #seaofstars and #chronotrigger do their command menus, so I'm going to try and recreate it.
I love #godot, but man is it difficult to get controls placed relative to the viewport 😅

I sometimes wish I’d had a career of game development instead of your bog standard software development 😅
Sure, my career is a bit more stable, but damn do I wish I was using my creative energy on games and not… *reads notes* tax information collection
After watching all the stuff coming out of Gamescom, the majority of which seems to be Unreal Engine games with that same Unreal Engine realistic lighting/rendering approach, I realize I've really slid entirely over to "I'd rather play random 6 dollar illustrative indie games on Steam".
I just spent nearly 3 hours trying to figure out why the camera in my game would stick to the player no matter what I did to reparent it to another node…
Only to realize that I had an additional camera attached to the player

Tell me about something that's part of the mental compost 💩🪰 (as Le Guin would put it) that fertilises your creativity.
Something that is -not- the same kind of thing as what you're making.
Why is it, that when tech bros talk about this kind of tech, they assume that people will use it "to learn" rather than use it as the thing it's been marketed as: a replacement for your own thoughts and creativity.
I swear I feel like I'm screaming into the void sometimes lol
I've said this before, but Godot just lets me get things done. It's lightweight, agile, and you can *really* customize the editor/workflow with your own scripts.
Plus open source means you're not tied to a shitty corporation. You can take the code and leave.
I mean yes? But also no?
Yes, let’s stop giving money to games that aren’t much more than “do everything for me”
But also, to lump games like VS, FFXII, and Factorio into the same category is pretty baffling.
I know it’s bait, but I ain’t paying 6£ just to see what else is in this article.
SHOW ME YOUR DECKS! (or rather portables)
apparently I collect handhelds now?
-...I promise I can stop whenever I want.
