this is the reason these questions are asked. it doesn't matter how well el-sayed answers, the media get to write a headline with his name and the muslim brotherhood in it. heated, islamist, implications, criticize, disavow, dual loyalty, scary man bad

CNN@cnn.com

Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed disavowed the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist political movement, during a heated exchange at a town hall. https://cnn.it/4s7r1TL

I had never been to a Cold Stone Creamery before, so I didn't learn that you are supposed to sing a song whenever you're tipped until my first day there. I walked off the job immediately.

One metal magazine of the 90s actually coined the phrase "Hetfield Effect" to describe the tendency of rockers to switch from "anti-war / anti-establishment" to "patriotic / conservative" pretty much the second they passed draft age

Someday, these guys will realize how much of a pussy these types of statements make them look

kinda breathtaking to watch the U.S. media establishment lose its shit about one maybe-plague death in a Russian backwater town with 3,887 confirmed measles cases reported in the United States, SO FAR, in 2026

X-Files, the saddest U-turn a show has ever taken Game of Thrones, obviously Downton Abbey To Your Eternity Frieren is going in this direction. I'm worried. The Simpsons does not qualify because no matter how bad it got, nothing can diminish that Golden Age

What TV show got so bad it effectively destroyed your appreciation for the show when it was was good?

Ever since I learned Tom Hanks had been considered for the role of Lestat in the 1994 adaptation of Interview with the Vampire, I can't stop imagining Forrest Gump saying, "My mama always said, 'Life is like a savage garden'." And, "Lieutenant Dan, I'm gonna give you the choice I never had."

"Evil is a point of view. God kills indiscriminately, and so shall we. For no creatures under God are as we are, none so like Him as ourselves. That's all I have to say about that."

Say whatever you want about “Choosin’ Texas” as a pop song, but it is never interesting to make any sort of statement about being unaware of a work of art. I don't care how "America B" it is. You're being boring.

As an aside, "America B" as a descriptor never made sense to me. It implies that this entire branch of America's fractured monoculture is ancillary and, I'm sorry, that is not the case. If anyone is "America B," it's the people like me who don't listen to Ella Langley.

The “I haven’t heard Choosin’ Texas” line is hard to take at face value. Why announce ignorance of an artist unless you already know enough to dismiss them as slop? How do you know that without hearing it? You never hear anyone so smugly boast, “I don’t know who Osamu Dazai is.”

This is absolutely deranged: Months before murdering 6 people and injuring 27 more, ChatGPT told the teen school shooter in Tumbler Ridge, BC that using a Remington 870 pump-action shotgun is “brutal” in a “hallway, indoors or a crowded classroom” because “close quarters” is that gun’s “playground”

My babysitter told me that centipedes were deadly venomous. I was horrified of them for years. I saw Legend when I was seven. Tim Curry (RIP) as Darkness haunted my nights, keeping me from falling asleep. Since we were a Catholic family, my parents couldn't tell me Satan wasn't out to get me.

Saw Her Private Hell last weekend. I went in with high hopes, but I’m forced to admit that the blue-and-pink neon synthwave aesthetic has become too commonplace to sustain visual interest or compensate for an undercooked plot or characters. The vibe has died. It will be remembered fondly.

It pains me to say this because I really did love this aesthetic, and probably had more patience for it than I should have as it entered its second decade. I will go to bat for any movie that values style over substance, but not when the style is this tired.

I love Jane Schoenbrun's movies because they gleefully deploy unambiguous allegories. I want "tell not show" to come back in a big way, and I'm not kidding.

Whenever a narrator reflects back on their early schooldays, they always refer to the other kids in their class by both first and last names. "And that was when I first met Susie Vanderhook." Or, "Bobby Savinski always carried a grudge against me." Why? I don't know anyone who reminisces like this.

When a moderate is the candidate, the left makes a specific demand: "To earn my vote, you must end all military support for Israel." When a progressive is the candidate, moderates make a specific demand: "To earn my vote, you must be nicer to me on the internet."
