When I was younger I would listen to Rush or Hannity, and joke that I was “keeping an eye on the opposition.” I would find myself yelling at the radio in the car so I stopped bc it was bad for me. MMFA took that idea, and did it at scale, and broke the brains of some really talented journalists.

It’s fine for a black man to be successful, as long as he doesn’t run my nose in it by being more successful than me.

Aubrey Gilleran@aubreygilleran.bsky.social

It wasn't just being hyper critical about policies or potential scandals. That's to be expected. It was the constant poring through every speech or statement for the “oh so you think you're better than me?” angle.

These are the same people who are appalled that they have to pay for their burrito taxi, and that bitch about surge pricing with uber, and a million other things.

I’m watching a thread of people who are demanding 1) an email service alternative to Proton, 2) that doesn’t use AI, and promises to never use AI, 3) is privacy-focused (that means no ads), and finally, is 4) completely free

When I pointed out “Hang with the boys at someone’s place and watch a game” and “tack a vacation on to a wedding” and “get a car with better gas mileage” as examples of better financial decisions to make,

someone went off about how that was totally unreasonable, and people deserve to have nice things. To which I said “sure. But then they don’t get to bitch about affordability.”

Yesterday when I responded to a post in r/salary that said “you have to make $85K to survive” and then listed things like $350/mo car payment $455/mo in “relationships” which included $150 for weddings, $150 for vacation, and separate accounts for going out to bars and going out to bars for dates.

What’s interesting to me is that, for 8+ years I’ve been hearing oh the IC are all kooks, but the larger national org is actively moving to give them less and less power. This sure looks like the opposite!

This post is unavailable.

And the responses to today are “sure the national party are kooks, but the local groups are where the real work happens”. But in that case, the only difference between local Dems and DSA is that you think the Dems are lame bc they’re mostly old people. You’re treating it like a social club.

I mean, I’m not terribly surprised that the anti-Semitic ad is not being denounced on this site.

Cai : go see DIGGER@annenotation.bsky.social

That ad by Cenk is so vile that it is pretty goddamn suspicious that it's not being soundly and roundly denounced around here.

See? There is no secret “defeat fascism once and for all” belief system. You just do the work, every election. Far left, center left, it doesn’t matter. Learn the lesson: Stop pretending you’re special and just fucking vote for Democrats.

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

It’s so refreshing to watch a video where Mehdi is talking to an asshole not being an asshole.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

A helpfully clear exchange here Hasan: "So your argument is that [Minnesota ICE protesters] should stay at home because immigration is a salient issue for Donald Trump. Opposing ICE is only going to help Trump. Wait until we win the election in 2028." Yglesias: "Yes that is what I would have said"

A very common and sort of funny combination of beliefs on here is that reactionary corporations exercise iron control over the media and also that this is irrelevant to Democrats attempting to put out progressive messaging

Both sides of this are anti-social assholes. People who say they don’t want their car to do menial shit like pick up the groceries also complain that their burrito taxi isn’t free. People who say your car will be your spouse need to find one (1) person who can stand then for more than a few minutes.

So are online influencers still showing their receipts from grocery shopping and food delivery or was that just a fuck with Democrats type of thing?

Does anybody want to tell James Talarico that Landry KILLED A MAN?!? Or, rather, he killed one man that we KNOW about. Talarico's gonna have to distance himself from that endorsement for the rest of the campaign. Sigh.

Tonight, we’re kicking off our Clear Eyes, Full Hearts Tour with some special guests from the cast of Friday Night Lights. We’ve come this far together. Now it’s time to leave it all on the field. Join us: www.mobilize.us/talaricofort...

It is objectively funny that the person who lets everyone on this site think that she’s a lawyer, despite having the same level of legal credentialing as me (none), is very upset that some ai generated blog spit out a garbled explanation between attorney and lawyer.

Matt is right here. My wife recently received $50K from a rich aunt, and we…painted our house, and are taking our daughter to Disneyworld and on a 3 day cruise next summer, and will have have a bit left over to fund into our IRAs. We are a roughly 70th percentile hhi, so not wealthy by any means.

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

I think this thread is good but I think it’s sort of dances around the fact that here on Bluesky people say yes I want policy I want policy, and we still consume that content. It’s the people who aren’t here who are less politically engaged who just want Trump bad content which we still consume.

The sight gag in Disclosure Day where John Walker can’t drive over the phone so Mary Poppins gets out and puts it directly under the tire is the best part of this movie so far.

As a polish jew I thought what we had with Ben and the onion was special, but it turns out we’re just another notch in the “what do you mean that’s bigoted and racist, it’s just funny, you can’t even tell a joke anymore” bedpost.

While my daughter and I were putting out decorations my neighbor drove by today and told my daughter and I it’s not Halloween until we put up our decorations. So now I feel bad about our weak ass effort this year.

Yes, because a lot of “leftists” are kids from right wing households, who realized they held a left-coded core position (usually lgbtq rights), but have never rethought any of what Fox News told them about liberals.

realryanwhorton.bsky.social@realryanwhorton.bsky.social

They use liberal the same way Glenn Beck and all the 00s Fox News guys used liberal in the 90s to early 00s. Big damn red flag for me frankly

All of the more than 100 million Americans who live in states without the death penalty, either by abolition or executive moratorium, *have Democrats to thank* for this fact.

It's kind of interesting how this declaration of responsibility for the Democrats is, in fact, just an advertisement for the authors past articles.

Liliana Segura@lilianasegura.bsky.social

One more thing about the death penalty before going offline. As disgusted as we should be by Trump's bloodlust, we should NOT lose sight of the CENTRAL role of Democrats in upholding, expanding, and enabling this system that seems to horrify so many people right now. It really cannot be said enough.

i take this back, fully retract it, and i apologize for how i phrased this. i posted this while angry at the constant barrage of years of my life witnessing senseless murder in palestine, and this is no way to express my opinion, which is an end to all conflinct in the region. i’m sorry

My hot take is I don't think the revisionism of HP helps anyone. Will is correct here. The fact is, the politics of the books are simply completely different from how she participates in politics now. She was radicalized and changed by social media. It happened to her, and it can happen to you too.

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

to be fair it’s actually the opposite - Rowling was right about this precise dynamic

This is a great thread. Also, a casual reminder that you cannot outsmart propaganda because it is built around how people's brains interpret and intuit patterns. If you soak in it as part of your career, it will have an effect. The only guaranteed way to sidestep propaganda is to not consume it!

The grammatical 'colon' and the anatomical 'colon' are not etymologically related. The anatomical 'colon' comes from the Greek ‘kolon’ which means “large intestine.” The grammatical 'colon' comes from the Greek ‘kōlon’ which means “limb.” Both are a means to an end.
